WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #1, by Donald Mustard, Christos Gage, Reilly Brown, Nelson Faro DeCastro, John Kalisz and AndWorld Design, on sale now.

The popular online game Fortnite is receiving some new guests from the DC Universe as Batman and his supporting cast find themselves on Party Royale Island in the new miniseries Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point. As Gotham City is poised to be consumed by a strange tear between universes, the Dark Knight's odyssey into the video game world comes after a confrontation with a familiar foe in Harley Quinn that results in Batman tumbling head over heels into the universal anomaly and seemingly cut off from making it back to the DCU.

After an extra-dimensional rift forms in the skies above Gotham, Batman compares notes on the situation with Commissioner Gordon from the top of the Gotham City Police Department headquarters. Noting that the rift is resulting from cracks in the fabric of reality itself, Batman and Gordon observe that while many citizens are running away to avoid getting sucked into the mysterious vortex, some are running towards it, drawn in by unknown incentives awaiting them on the other side. Batman intercepts Harley as she makes her way to the rift only for an undisclosed figure to kick him from behind and launch into the tear as the Dark Knight's gadgets begin to fail him.

Advanced previews of future issues reveal that even apart from the usual Fortnite familiar faces, including Bandolier and Renegade Raider, more combatants are awaiting the Caped Crusader as he lands on Party Royale Island. Batman finds Catwoman has similarly arrived in the strange, new world though how and why exactly Selina Kyle has made her own entrance on the island is currently unknown. And just as with last year's crossover title Fortnite x Marvel: Nexus War - Thor, the longer Bruce Wayne spends on Party Royale Island, the more his memories steadily erode as he loses himself to the seemingly endless loop of battling his opponents until there's only one combatant left standing and the cycle begins anew.

Whereas the collision between the DCU and Fortnite Universe in Zero Point appears to be a random incursion, Nexus War had the Marvel Universe and video game universe meet because of one major figure: Galactus. The World Eater found that the unique energy empowering the Fortnite Universe could finally sate his hunger and give him the strength he needed to defeat the omnipotent Black Winter. Thor arrived on Party Royale Island to stop him, with the rest of his fellow Avengers transported by Lady Sif using the Bifrost Bridge to arrive on the strange world and back up the God of Thunder before they began to experience the island's ill effects.

Batman and Catwoman fight in Fortnite

While the effects of the extra-dimensional rift in the DCU are still unknown, Batman and Catwoman are now in the thick of it on Party Royale Island with the Storm moving in and the locations of Harley Quinn and any other DC heroes unclear. Bruce may not remember who he is, but he's fortunately, retained his combat instincts as he takes on waves of opponents over and over again while searching for a way to return home.

So far, Fortnite's crossover with the DCU is isolated to Gotham City but, with more guest stars poised to make an appearance, the Caped Crusader's otherworldly struggles are only just beginning.
