WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #6, by Donald Mustard, Christos Gage, Reilly Brown, Nelson DeCastro, John Kalisz and AndWorld Design, on sale now.

After investigating a crack in reality that appeared in the skies above Gotham City, Batman found himself whisked away to the chaotic world of Fortnite. Trapped on an island and forced to fight a whole host of rival combatants in an endless cycle of death and rebirth, the Dark Knight struggled to remember who he was across each cycle and why exactly he and several other familiar faces from the DC Universe had been exiled to the island.

And as Batman finally makes his way back home and seals the extra-dimensional rift to protect the DCU from further incursions, the true culprits behind the whole incident are revealed, including an omnipotent supervillain that recently shook the multiverse to its core: The Batman Who Laughs.

Batman Who Laughs Fortnite

An evil Bruce Wayne from the depths of the Dark Multiverse, twisted into villainy after being infected by Joker toxin after killing his world's Clown Prince of Crime, the Batman Who Laughs blends the resources and keen tactical mind of the Caped Crusader with the wanton love of murderous violence on a multiversal scale. After devastating his own world, the Batman Who Laughs led a cadre of evil Batmen from across the Dark Multiverse to conquer any universe that lay in their path before setting his sights on the main DCU. And while his initial invasion attempt failed, the Batman Who Laughs returned with a vengeance and a cosmic upgrade during the crossover event Dark Nights: Death Metal.

Appointed by the evil god Perpetua to rule over the DCU and reshape it in his fiendish image, the Batman Who Laughs was dismembered by Wonder Woman, armed with the Chainsaw of Truth, with his consciousness implanted into the body of a Batman that possessed the powers of Doctor Manhattan. As the Darkest Knight, the supervillain continued to augment his power with raw crisis energy from the Dark Multiverse and personally slew Perpetua. Threatening to destroy the entire DC Multiverse, the heroes rallied together to topple the Darkest Knight by plunging him into the sun before the multiverse is reborn.

Lex Luthor Deathstroke Batman Fortnite

Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point reveals that the Batman Who Laughs is a part of supervillain cabal that orchestrated the entire crossover between worlds, ostensibly brought in for his knowledge in navigating the multiverse and for anticipating Batman's moves as a version of Bruce Wayne himself. Interestingly, the Batman Who Laughs is back to his normal state instead of appearing as the Darkest Knight and is working alongside Lex Luthor and Deathstroke, two figures that he would go on to double-cross in his rise to power leading up to Death Metal.

Given the Batman Who Laughs' physical appearance and partnerships, the Zero Point appears to take place sometime before the events of Death Metal, with Jim Gordon still part of the Gotham City Police Department. And with this ensemble of enemies quietly manipulating Batman into setting anchors onto Zero Point, the door literally remains open for the DCU and world of Fortnite to crossover once again, even with the rift between worlds seemingly sealed. The current status of the Batman Who Laughs is unknown, the DCU has never been known to let a good supervillain stay dead for long.
