Warner Bros. apparently has no plans to release the original longer and darker cut of Batman Forever.

According to Variety, Joel Schumacher's extended cut of the 1995 film does exist. However, there are no current discussions at Warner Bros. regarding its release, and there's even  question of whether enough footage still exists.

The 170-minute extended version of Batman Forever is said to be far darker than the 121-minute theatrical cut, with an opening depicting Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones) breaking out of Arkham Asylum. Another addition is a subplot exploring Bruce Wayne's psychological issues, which included him confronting a giant man-sized bat.

While many have known about the existence of the alternate Batman Forever cut, there's been a recent resurgence in its demand following the death of director Joel Schumacher, as well as the successful effort to get Zack Snyder's original cut of Justice League released. Moreover, 2020 marks the 25 anniversary of Batman Forever's theatrical release.

Directed by Joel Schumacher, Batman Forever stars Val Kilmer, Jim Carrey, Tommy Lee Jones, Nicole Kidman, Chris O'Donnell, Michael Gough and Pat Hingle.
