WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Catwoman #41, on sale now from DC Comics.

Selina Kyle has been living a little more dangerously since leaving Alley Town. She's taken on Gotham's biggest crime bosses and has a mysterious new thief interested in her - one who has no qualms about killing. After saving Selina's life by killing some mob enforcers, this mysterious killer, Valmont, arranged to have the bodies disposed of. However, the person he hired to collect and dispose of the bodies "cleanly" is an old obscure Batman villain and this is his disgusting side hustle.

Body disposal is an unfortunate consequence of being a killer, as Selina was made aware of in Catwoman #41 (by Tini Howard, Nico Leon, Veronica Gandini and Tom Napolitano). However, some services that deal with the mess are way more messed up than others, as it turned out that Valmont's body disposal guy was the cannibal hitman Flamingo.

Flamingo was created by Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert and first appeared in Batman and Robin #5 in 2009. The villain was a flamboyantly deadly hitman, wearing a hot pink outfit and driving a hot pink bike, which feature in his latest appearance here. He used to be someone who fought against crime, fighting the Penitente Cartel. When the cartel performed brain surgery on him, they turned him into an emotionless killer. Flamingo murdered his wife and child and became an enforcer for the very organization he swore to destroy. As a result of the brain surgery that changed him so completely, he also became a cannibal. More specifically, he enjoyed eating the faces of his victims.

It seems that when Flamingo isn't being a merciless assassin for a deadly cartel, he's disposing of bodies on the side. The fact that he's very famously a cannibal certainly implies that his methods of disposal are disgustingly unique. Valmont tried to pass off this well-known character trait as a rumor but Selina, knowing Gotham even better than Batman, knew full well that the rumor is very, very true.

This new business venture leans into the darker areas of this character. His design already embodies the ridiculous fun of the Grant Morrison era of Batman but his backstory is, conversely, extremely dark. From murdering his family to becoming an emotionless killer, it's all deeply disturbing even before the cannibal aspect. Initially, it was only faces he was interested in, however, this latest revelation implies that it's much more than that.

Flamingo is now much more than just a horrifying contract killer. His cannibal tendencies have been amplified to the point that other people's kills are a meal for him now - and one that he gets paid for. Given his obscurity, it's unlikely that he'll be appearing more frequently in any of the Batman titles. However, this new revelation could be used to propel him to being much more than a gun-for-hire. He could evolve even further and become the center of a horrific serial killer case for the Dark Knight. That's if DC were willing to grow the character into an ever-evolving monster. The fact that this can be considered with a relatively unknown character just shows the depths of Batman's rogues gallery and the plethora of stories Gotham has left to share.
