Batman's father, Thomas Wayne, is readying himself for a massive war with Atlantis in a preview for DC's upcoming Flashpoint Beyond #1.

DC released a preview for the upcoming Flashpoint Beyond #1, which comes from writers Geoff Johns, Jeremy Adams and Tim Sheridan, with art by Xermánico. The preview sees Thomas Wayne, the Batman of the Flashpoint universe, walking around what appears to be Wayne Manor with Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin. Wayne solemnly walks into the Batcave, puts on his Batsuit and then loads a gun he has sitting in a nearby display case. A monitor behind Wayne shows a number of recognizable DC Universe characters, including Aquaman, Amanda Waller, Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Poison Ivy and Swamp Thing.

The synopsis for Flashpoint Beyond #1 provided by DC reads, "In FLASHPOINT BEYOND #1 Batman’s hunt for the Clockwork Killer brings him to Europe and face to face with the mad king, Aquaman. On the eve of Aquaman’s sinking of London, Batman infiltrates his stronghold and goes on the warpath for answers. Nothing matters to Batman, whose world is already dead, but if he can track down the Clockwork Killer, Thomas can save his son’s world and put everything back together again."

Flashpoint Beyond is a six-issue sequel to 2011's Flashpoint storyline by Johns and Andy Kubert. The majority of the first Flashpoint event took place in an alternate reality that Barry Allen/Flash finds himself stuck in. In this timeline, Bruce Wayne was killed by a robber instead of Thomas and Martha. Thomas vows to get vengeance for his dead son by becoming the Dark Knight, while Martha loses her grip on reality and becomes a version of the Joker.

Before Flashpoint Beyond #1, DC will release Flashpoint Beyond #0 by Johns and Eduardo Risso on April 12. DC previously announced that Batman will enlist the help of Mime/Marcos Maez and Marionette/Erika Manson from Doomsday Clock, DC's Watchmen sequel, within the issue, although it's not immediately clear whether or not Flashpoint Beyond is set within the same universe as Watchmen. "Embarking on a new journey with the caped crusader is always a challenge, but working with Geoff has made the whole process a true delight," Risso said of Flashpoint Beyond. "I'm certain that if audiences all around the world have as much fun reading it as I had drawing it, they're in for one hell of a ride."

Flashpoint Beyond #1 features cover art by Mitch Gerads, with variant cover art by Xermánico, Gary Frank and Todd Nauck. The issue releases on May 3 from DC.
