Warner Bros. Animation's Batwheels is making a major change to the Batman status quo.

As revealed in the new Batwheels casting announcement, Duke Thomas -- a once codenameless superhero who eventually became known as The Signal -- has been promoted to Robin for the animated series. Voiced by AJ Hudson, he's described as "The Boy Wonder who loves sinking his teeth into a great detective mystery while he strives to prove himself alongside Batman."

Created by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, Duke Thomas debuted in 2013's Batman #21. The character was an ordinary teenage citizen of Gotham until The Joker kidnapped his family and gassed his parents. Despite being a central figure in We Are Robin and Robin War, Duke has never been a Robin by name in the comics. In fact, his first official superhero title -- The Signal -- wasn't given to him until Dark Nights: Metal.

In addition to Duke, Batwheels features familiar characters such as Cassandra Cain/Batgirl (voiced by Leah Lewis) and Batman himself (voiced by Ethan Hawke).

Announced in October 2020, Batwheels is described as "a preschool animated action-adventure comedy series starring the most heroic and iconic vehicles from the DC universe." The series has yet to receive a premiere date.
