WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Batman #95 by James Tynion IV, Jorge Jimenez, Tomeu Morey and Clayton Cowles, available now.

Bruce Wayne is one of the richest people in all of comics and uses his immense wealth to finance his vigilante activities as Batman. However, Bruce's net worth at any given time is pretty difficult to pin down, since most comics are not explicit about the particulars of his assets. Still, Batman #95 gives an indication of just how much the current iteration of Bruce was worth before Joker stole all of his money prior to the start of the "Joker War" crossover and teases the Clown Prince of Crime having spent an incredible amount.

In Batman #93, Catwoman noted Bruce doesn't himself actually own all that much, instead using various shell corporations to store his wealth and move it around so as to finance his vigilante activities. While Catwoman initially intended to put the money in her own account so as to protect Bruce from Joker's plan, the Underbroker and Punchline stopped her and instead funnelled the money to Joker's account. At the time, Punchline told Joker he was worth over $100 billion.

The following issue saw Bruce on the run, wanted for embezzling millions of dollars, as Joker seized his many assets, including Wayne Enterprises. While this only served to strengthen Bruce's resolve to take down his nemesis, Batman #95 reveals Joker is continually staying one step ahead of his foe, going so far as to buy the Monarch Theatre -- outside of which Thomas and Martha Wayne were shot for some nefarious plan. Batman, for his part, heads into one of his secondary Batcaves inside a Wayne Enterprises building, where he finds Punchline waiting for him. The Joker's new sidekick reveals she tortured Lucius Fox in order to find out the location of the hero's secondary Batcaves. However, when the book shows that brutal interrogation, Punchline claims Joker is now worth "almost one hundred billion dollars."

The initial range for the Dark Knight's wealth in Batman #93 was already much higher than most estimates. In 2018, estimates put Bruce's net worth at around $80 billion, which itself represents a significant increase from where the film version of the hero was thought to be in 2012. Punchline's initial statement means Bruce was worth at least $20 billion more than those estimates.

The question is then just how much Bruce was actually worth. While the book doesn't give the exact number, there's a good chance it wasn't much more than $100 billion. The reason for this is that Punchline's interrogation of Lucius Fox seems to take place close to when Joker stole Bruce's money, as indicated by the newscasts in Batman #95. One of the newscasts specifically notes that the Gotham Gazette had to retract a story earlier in the day about Joker running the show at Wayne Enterprises due to threat of lawsuit. This means at least one day has passed since Batman #94. Additionally, since Joker is also pretty deeply entrenched in Wayne Enterprises and has gained some amount of political support, there's a good chance Batman #95 doesn't take place directly after Batman #94. In contrast, news of Bruce Wayne missing and Joker's possible takeover still seems quite fresh, and resistance to what's going on hasn't died down. Overall, it's likely only a few days at most have passed since Joker stole Bruce's money.

All of this indicates Bruce's net worth probably wasn't significantly over $100 billion, since Punchline notes Joker is worth less than $100 billion in Batman #95. While Joker is certainly sparing no expense in his war against the Dark Knight, the idea of him spending more than a few billion in the short period between when he robbed Bruce and Batman #95 seems almost impossible -- even if he's paying billions of dollars to the Underbroker for his services and to acquire Gotham's many theaters. Joker could certainly be spending Bruce's money randomly and just giving it away, but his singular focus right now appears to be on wrecking Batman. Since Joker already has the money and Bruce has no real way to get it back, giving the Dark Knight's fortune away doesn't advance the Clown Prince of Crime's plan in any obvious way.

In the end, exactly how much Batman had depends on how much Joker has spent. Overall, though, it seems unlikely Bruce was worth anywhere north of $110 billion, which itself assumes the Clown Prince of Crime spent more than a billion a day in the week following the theft. It's also possible Joker spent much, much less and Bruce was only worth a few million over $100 billion. That being said, Joker's plans are expensive (buying every movie theater in Gotham isn't cheap), and it's seems likely he's spent more than a billion, especially if he's paying the premium rate he offered the owner of the Monarch Theatre.

While DC didn't reveal Bruce's exact net worth in Batman #95, the book does give a good indication of how much the hero was worth prior to Joker's theft, and just how much the Clown Prince of Crime has spent in his quest to take down the Dark Knight.

Batman #95 is on sale now from DC.
