The following contains spoilers for Justice Society of America #1, on sale now from DC Comics.

Helena Wayne/Huntress brings together a team of DC characters in Justice Society of America #1.

In Justice Society of America #1, Helena Wayne is searching for the person who killed both her father, Batman, and Doctor Fate/Khalid Nassour. Helena narrates, "In the years following my dad's death, the legacies of the JSa haven't been taken up as quickly by this generation as they have in the past. I convinced Khalid to let me recruit 'outside the box' to form an interim team." Members of the interim team include Power Girl/Karen Starr, the Harlequin's Son/Michael Mayne, the Gentleman Ghost/Jim Craddock, Icicle/Cameron Mahkent, Solomon Grundy, the Mist/Kyle Knight and Ruby Sokov, who is the daughter of the Red Lantern/Vladimir Sokov.

Iconic DC Villains Are Teaming Up With Some Brand-New Characters

The Gentlemen's Ghost, Solomon Grundy, Icicle and the Mist all have a history of being villains within the DC Universe, while Power Girl is a longtime hero. The Harlequin's Son is a new character who first debuted in 2022's The New Golden Age one-shot and is one of the thirteen members the DC Multiverse started rebuilding itself around following the events of Flashpoint Beyond. "Michael Mayne is the son of Green Lantern Alan Scott's longtime nemesis Molly Mayne, a.k.a. the Harlequin," a Golden Age Who's Who description of the character reads. "The identity of his father remains unknown. Michael grew up with his grandmother, seeing his mother only on occasion due to her life as Harlequin, which created a very strained relationship between the two."

Red Lantern is also one of the thirteen characters from Flashpoint Beyond. "Vladimir's life changed when his daughter was born in 1951," Vladimir's Who's Who reads. "She had somehow inherited the power of the Crimson Flame, which left her with glowing red skin. Vladimir's daughter was taken against his will and put under study by Russia's Red Labs. Trying to retrieve his daughter, Red Lantern was seemingly killed by the Red Army, but not before he turned every scientist in Red Labs studying his daughter into ash. However, his body, red lantern and ring have never been recovered and the fate of his daughter is unknown."

Unfortunately, Helena's new team doesn't have time to investigate Doctor Fate's death as they're all promptly murdered by the Stranger, who also killed a futuristic Justice Society team in The New Golden Age. The Stranger's ambush comes shortly after the group finds Khalid's mummified body in a museum. Huntress is the sole survivor of the attack thanks to a last-minute assist from her mother, Selina Kyle, who throws her the Flashpoint Beyond snow globe, which then transports Helena through time to 1940.
