WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Tales From the Dark Multiverse: Batman -- Knightfall #1, from Scott Snyder, Kyle Higgins, Javier Fernandez, Alex Guimaraes and Clayton Cowles, on sale now.

Over the years we've seen some very deadly iterations of the Bat-rogue known as Bane. The villain, created in the '90s by Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench, Graham Nolan and Dennis O'Neil, was envisioned to be a deceptively intelligent bruiser who used Venom to turn into a super-strong behemoth. With time, he's become more cerebral, and he's currently turned Gotham City into his domain in DC's main Batman title.

Of course, Bane also broke Batman's back in Batman: Knightfall and appeared in cartoons and movies like The Dark Knight Rises, where he was portrayed by Tom Hardy. But still, despite these different versions, DC just introduced one of the best versions of Bane ever with Tales From the Dark Multiverse: Batman -- Knightfall.

This version of Bane isn't the son of Edmund Dorrance from Santa Prisca, since that Bane was killed by Azrael in this dark dimension. The anti-hero slaughtered Bane with his sword, just as he did Batman, before taking over Gotham, isolating the city from the world and ruling ot with an iron fist as a vigilante king.

However, Tourne, a merciless new Bane rose up, to take the place of his fallen father. And just like his dad, he has strength-enhancing Venom serum pumping through his veins.

In this one-shot, Azrael has been keeping a maimed Bruce alive using tech in Wayne Tower, gloating about how his brutal methods fixed the city. This leads to Tourne, Bane's son with Lady Shiva, rescuing Bruce and in the process, showing us that he's just as much the blend of brains and brawn as his dad was. Due to Bane's constant use of Venom, Tourne now has it in his blood and can activate it at will. He looks Damian Wayne, but when he gets into the battlefield, he can instantly transform into a giant like his dad. But unlike his dad, this hulking hero understands that his great power comes with great responsibility.

Tourne is much deadlier than his dad who used to be a brawler, who adopted various wrestling styles. On the other hand, Tourne uses swift aggression and comes off as ninja, thanks to his time training under his mom and the League of Assassins. He displays stealth, elegance and uses several killing blows.

With his martial arts skills, he could've even given Batman a challenge in his prime. Seeing Tourne with his Red Hood-esque costume slaying Azrael's Bat-officers, then going up against Azrael himself with his mom is quite a spectacle, and it's clear he's someone the Dark Knight would have loved to have as a protege.

This doesn't end well, though, because Azrael rips his arm off to drink his Venom-infused blood in the melee. However, Tourne gets the last laugh by stabbing the villain to death, but not before breaking his back without even lifting him up. With a straight knee to the back, he reminds us how he was still Bane's son, who reveled in cruelty and violence. In Tourne's case, though, it's a necessary act of violence that helps create civil unrest and helps him use the League to liberate his city.

Sadly, a nanotech-infused Bruce ends up killing him and Shiva because he knows the danger Tourne poses to his new mission of ruling Gotham. Twisted by his time in captivity, Bruce wants a dark world, and he takes the hero and his mom out, making this Bane's existence short but memorable.
