A new trailer for Batman: Damned has been uploaded on YouTube to give fans a brief glimpse into the upcoming hardcover graphic novel compilation.

The book is a collection of DC Black Label's first new series, written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Lee Bermejo. As the short trailer explains, the Joker is dead and not even Batman can remember what caused the end of the clown prince, let alone if he had a hand in it.

A synopsis provided by DC Comics details the story as such:

The Joker is dead.

There is no doubt about that. But whether Batman finally snapped his scrawny neck or some other sinister force in Gotham City did the deed is still a mystery.

Problem is, Batman can’t remember…and the more he digs into this labyrinthian case, the more his mind starts to doubt everything he’s uncovering.

So who better to set him straight than…John Constantine? Problem with that is as much as John loves a good mystery, he loves messing with people’s heads even more. So with John’s “help,” the pair will delve into the sordid underbelly of Gotham as they race toward the mind-blowing truth of who murdered The Joker.

Some of the bonus material includes a behind-the-scenes sketch gallery and an afterword by Azzarello.

In addition to Bermejo, who worked on arts and colors, and Azzarello, lettering came from Jared K. Fletcher and additional cover art for the original series came from Alex Sinclair and Jim Lee.

The hardcover will be made available this Sept. 4, but it is already available for pre-order here.
