DC Comics' next big event, "Lazarus Planet," sees Batman/Bruce Wayne wearing Doctor Fate's Helmet of Nabu, Martian Manhunter becoming a Doomsday-like monster, Jon Kent dressed in his father's Electric Blue suit and more.

Revealed during the "Explore the DC Multiverse" panel at New York Comic Con on Oct. 6, "Lazarus Planet" is an brand-new DC Comics event coming out of Mark Waid and Mahmud Asrar's Batman vs. Robin series. Beginning in January 2023, "Lazarus Planet" is helmed by Waid and features input from a number of other creators, including Riccardo Federici, Gene Luen Yang, Billy Tan, Nicole Maines, Skylar Patridge, Francis Manapul, Dan Watters, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Josie Campbell and more.

The publisher teased of the event, "Following the events of Mark Waid and Mahmud Asrar’s Batman vs. Robin #4 this December, the Lazarus Volcano has erupted—spewing dangerous and transformative chemicals into Earth’s atmosphere, resulting in chaos across the DC universe! As these Lazarus clouds rain down upon the planet, people across the globe begin to develop strange new abilities, watch their already-extraordinary abilities change, and witness a whole host of chaos unlike anything the DCU has experienced before!" In addition to the afromentioned heroes, promotional "Lazarus Planet" artwork also features Cyborg/Victor Stone, Mercy Graves, Poison Ivy, Power Girl, Monkey Prince and Red Canary, a new character recently introduced in the ongoing Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths event.

DC's Next Event Spins Out of Batman vs. Robin

Batman vs. Robin launched in September from DC. The first issue of the five-issue series sees Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth, who is back from the grave but still unsure how he managed to do so, walk into the Batcave only to find an angered Damian Wayne waiting to attack. As the issue goes on, Batman learns Damian has been specifically targetting the Justice League Dark and magic-users across the DC Universe for reasons that remain unknown; however, he appears to be working with Mother Soul and the Devil Nezha on his quest.

Batman vs. Robin #4, which also shows Batman wearing Doctor Fate's helmet in cover art created by Asrar, releases on Dec. 20. The synopsis for the issue reads, "As the final battle erupts between Batman and Robin at the heart of Lazarus Island, a strange tremor rocks the combatants to their senses…This isn't an island at all—it's a volcano! With the Devil Nezha pulling the strings and unbelievable transformative power about to explode out into the world, our heroes have no choice but to do the unthinkable—fall back! A battle between father and son goes global as the Earth enters into the Lazarus Planet…"

The event launches on Jan. 10, 2023, with Lazarus Planet: Alpha and then continues over the following weeks with Lazarus Planet: Assault on Krypton (Jan. 17), Lazarus Planet: We Once Were Gods (Jan. 24), Lazarus Planet: Legends Reborn (Jan. 31), Lazarus Planet: Next Evolution (Feb. 7), Lazarus Planet: Dark Fate (Feb. 14) and Lazarus Planet: Omega (Feb. 21). Full creative teams involved in each title will be announced at a later date.
