In conjunction with his 80th birthday, Batman will be the first inductee into the Comic-Con Museum's Character Hall of Fame.

DC Comics Co-Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee announced at WonderCon in Anaheim that the Caped Crusader would be the first character inducted into the Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place at the 50th Annual Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 17. The fundraising event will feature props and memorabilia from the character's history in addition to appearances by artists, actors and other creative teams involved with Batman's legacy.

DC also released a video to commemorate the event featuring various people associated with Batman and his various incarnations wishing him a happy birthday.

Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27, published on March 30, 1939. The character was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. Since his debut, he's gone on to appear in pretty much every imaginable medium and is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. He's been played on the big screen by actors including Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, George Clooney, Val Kilmer and Michael Keaton.
