Actor Robert Pattinson has a gargantuan task ahead of him in The Batman. Despite the considerable number of live-action Batman films, only a handful of actors seem to have been able to distinguish themselves. Even fewer hold up under the scrutiny of modern audiences.

Christian Bale, star of Christopher Nolan's critically-acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy, has done well in that regard. However, he has no advice to offer Pattinson, confidently explaining in an interview with MTV that his fellow British actor needs no help. "He doesn't need any advice," Bale said, adding, "The whole point of that is that it's bigger than any one actor." Bale then noted that it is up to Pattinson to employ "his own take."

Starting with Batman Begins in 2005, Christian Bale played the caped crusader for seven years through The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. The trilogy contributed greatly to the reshaping of the comic book film genre, paving the way for grittier film adaptations.

Matt Reeve's The Batman is currently in development. Little is known about the upcoming film, only that certain staples of the Batman mythos will feature. It has been reported that Alfred Pennyworth will appear in the film, played by Andy Serkis, along with Commissioner Gordon, played by Jeffrey Wright; Catwoman, portrayed by Zoe Kravitz, and The Riddler, played by Paul Dano. On top of that, actor Colin Farrell is currently in talks to play Penguin.

Starring Robert Pattinson, The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves, who will also produce alongside Dylan Clark. While casting is still underway, the film is scheduled to be released on June 25, 2021.
