CBR is thrilled to present the newest edition of the World's Finest Fan Q&A! Each month, we ask comic fans to submit questions to DC creators about their work. This time around, we sent your questions to Chip Zdarsky. In addition to writing and drawing his creator-owned Public Domain and writing Marvel's Daredevil, Zdarsky is currently writing DC's Batman.

Since Zdarsky's run began in Batman #125, the writer has taken the Dark Knight to outer space and back before throwing the iconic hero into a new, alternate version of Gotham City. In this week's Batman #133, the Caped Crusader has a run-in with the Riddler as he continues to investigate this new iteration of Gotham City. To celebrate the new issue, Zdarsky answered your questions about his plans for the rest of the run and his influences.

Batman #133-9

What's your perspective on Two-Face as a Batman rogue? How do you envision his character in the context of your run, with or without the recent characterization changes made in Ram V's Detective Comics or the predating changes (Bruce's brain surgery moment)?

Thanks so much!

-Jojo

I love Harvey! He's a perfect character in the sense that he works across so many versions and takes. I love conflicted Harvey, good Harvey, [and] full-on baddie Harvey. There's so much to do with him. The fact that he's a character about duality as a foil to Batman, a man with a very different persona [and] secret identity, makes him incredibly fun to play with. Ram's take is super fun to read. He's a beautiful writer and can really dig into the different voices of Harvey.

All that to say, I don't have plans for Harvey right now since he's being used so well right now in Detective!

Hello Chip, any plans for Bane?

-Hamza

I mean, I have thoughts about Bane! Whether those show up in a story will depend on a lot of factors. It's hard to top Tom King's use of him from his run. I don't know if you know this about Tom, but he's a really great writer.

Hi there, I'm Zero, and I had two questions for Chip Zdarsky. The first question is: Your Batman run is very much a blend of character introspection mixed in with some over-the-top action sequences that you can only see in comics that I adore -- stuff like Batman diving down from space and still fighting Failsafe, for example. How do you strike that perfect balance of good character work and over-the-top action so that it really works and hits those emotional beats?

It's definitely a tricky balance! Much like Harvey, Batman as a character is so incredibly versatile, and I really want to explore all the ways he can be presented. But you don't want to create tonal whiplash with it, at least not in a continuous way. So you pick your moments and hope something big and wild makes the quiet moments sing a bit better in contrast.

The second question is: Considering Ghost-Maker and Talia Al Ghul were big parts of Batman: The Knight, will we be seeing them in your book? Will your run build on things from the Knight in any way?

It would be really fun to write both of them in a modern story. I don't have specific plans right now, just ideas. Good ideas? No.

I do have some The Knight stuff referenced in future issues! Much like Talia and Ghost-Maker, I have ideas on how to incorporate some bits. Good ideas? No.

Will Damian play a part in your run?

-Marcos

I finally got to write some Damian dialogue in Batman #136! Very satisfying. A lot of this job being the "main" Batman writer is making sure I don't get greedy with characters so other writers can tell their stories in the various Bat-books. Damian's a character I love, but I know the cool beats coming up for him in other stories, so I'm happy to wait my turn!

I know this is a tough question to answer, but how much can tell us about Bruce and Selina's relationship in the future of the run?

-@batcatfan12

They will be interacting with each other. Firm handshakes? Or something more? Tini [Howard] and I are cooking up some fun Batman/Catwoman stuff! That's all I can say!

Which classic authors who wrote the Batman stories are influencing your Batman?

@batcavebr

Oh man, so many. Honestly, I'm pretty directly influenced by all the recent writers who've built up Gotham in really fun and inventive ways. Scott Snyder is probably the gold standard I look to because he took really big swings with the title. Obviously, I love Grant Morrison's run. Frank Miller is always in my head, with Year One and Dark Knight Returns.

Will the beginning nightmare sequence of the three Jokers in Batman #125 be addressed in future story arcs?

-@mdp_tm

Yes! You'll get some wild revelations in Batman #135/#900, on sale soon! (Note: final trade dress on Batman #135 will also include legacy numbering, Issue #900)
