Last month longtime Batman writer Tom King announced he would be leaving the ongoing series by the end of the year to launch Batman/Catwoman, a 12-issue series with artist Clay Mann focused on the eponymous Gotham City couple.

Fan artist Rick Celis, who has previously illustrated title cards for King-penned Batman story arcs in the style of Batman: The Animated Series, has reimagined the first piece of artwork from the upcoming comic book in the style of the Emmy Award-winning animated series.

Featuring the characters in Bruce Timm's classic design before the series relaunched with new looks for most of the characters in 1997, Celis' piece perfectly recaptures Mann's original artwork of Catwoman embracing the Dark Knight as he gazes out into a blood-red sky.

Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle's romantic relationship has served as the emotional core to much of King's current run on the character, leading to an engagement culminating in Selina leaving Bruce at the altar. This abandonment was revealed to be part of Bane's long-developing plot to break Bruce Wayne on every conceivable level: Emotionally, psychologically, and physically. How Batman will react to Bane's plan as it reaches its final stages and if he will reunite with Catwoman have yet to be seen.
