Ahead of the comic's launch this December, a haunting piece artwork from Tom King and Clay Mann's 12-issue maxi-series Batman/Catwoman has been revealed, featuring the villain known as the Phantasm.Shared to Twitter by King, Mann's art offers a peek through a window. Inside, the Phantasm can be seen lurking in the shadows and standing over an unnamed victim, who is smearing blood on the window. In addition to the still image, Mann shared an animated version of the artwork to his own Twitter page, courtesy of babylonbuz. In the animation, the bloody hand slowly slides down the window as snow falls outside. The chilling scene is set to a rendition of "Carol of the Bells."RELATED: Catwoman: DC Is Giving Selina a Batman: The Animated Series Redesign

A follow-up to King's run writing DC's main Batman title, Batman/Catwoman will further explore the relationship between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. The 12-part series will delve into Batman and Catwoman's shared past, present and potential future. The two must also contend with the ever-present threat of the Joker, as well as Bruce's former lover Andrea Beaumont, aka the Phantasm.

Created by Alan Burnett and Paul Dini, the character of the Phantasm was introduced in the 1993 DC Animated Universe film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. The film sees the mysterious figure murdering Gotham City's various mob bosses, with Batman attempting to solve the case. During the film, it is revealed that the Phantasm is actually Andrea Beaumont, an old flame of Bruce's, who is seeking revenge against the criminals who killed her father. King and Mann's Batman/Catwoman marks the character's introduction to DC's mainstream comic book universe. In addition to the comic's 12 main issues, a Batman/Catwoman Special is also slated for release in June 2021.
