One of the biggest announcements from DC FanDome was a new Batman-themed videogame in the form of Gotham Knights. But according to Concept Artist Jerad S.Marantz, there was another Batman videogame in the works previously --and he's got the concept art to prove it.

The first piece of art in the series he posted is a red-eyed Batman, similar to Thomas Wayne's Flashpoint Batman. The caption on the piece reads, "Here’s a Batman design I did for a canceled game project. It’s always an incredible challenge to do a bat suit and make it work for a new story. Batman is my absolute favorite comic book character and I’ll never get tired of working on him."

The canceled game also would have included King Shark in some capacity. The caption on the King Shark piece reads, "Here’s the full body design on my King Shark. It’s funny, i’ve been so lucky to get these jobs where I am able to do passes on my favorite characters. Even if the project falls through I am so grateful to get the chance to work on them. I’m so busy, if it doesn’t show up in a job, I don’t get to do it. There’s so many pieces I’d love to do just simply as fanart, but very hard to imagine having the time for that."

Marantz posted another look at his King Shark, writing, "Here’s a really fun #kingshark I did for a canceled game a while back. Would love to see this guy running around, but so many projects get canceled… I was just glad to take a pass on the character. Definitely one of my favorites in the DC Universe."

He also posted a turntable to show off King Shark from all angles, writing, "Here’s a fun turntable of my King Shark. Did it kind of quick, might rerender it a bit slower at a different angle with some better lighting."

Despite this game being canceled, Batman is poised for another DC takeover. The character will appear on the big screen in Zack Snyder's Justice League as played by Ben Affleck. Afterward, Affleck will reprise his role one more time in The Flash in 2021. Also during 2021, Robet Pattinson will take on the bat mantle in Matt Reeves' The Batman. Fans got their first look at Reeves' vision for the Dark Knight at DC FanDome. Meanwhile, a two-part animated film adaptation of The Long Halloween will be released.

Though Batman himself will be dead and gone in the Gotham Knights timeline, the game will feature his former sidekicks protecting the city he dedicated his life to.

Developed by WB Games Montréal, Gotham Knights goes on sale in 2021.
