Batman Beyond was, without a doubt, a product of the '90s; it featured a cooler, younger Batman with an edge, watching over and protecting Neo-Gotham, a gritty, futuristic version built over the original. Despite this, the series doesn't age as terrible as one might think, in fact, Terry McGinnis was eventually brought into the man DC universe due to his popularity, part of which is due to all the cool stuff he and his advanced bat-suit could do. With a long list of enhancements, weapons and other cool equipment, Terry's version of Batman was, at times, much more effective than the original.

But it's not just the suit, Terry was nearly as smart as Bruce and he had a few tricks of his own that the OG Batman didn't. All in all, it's hard to say which Batman is better, since it's worth an entire article on its own, but we can at least say that Terry's got a few things that Bruce doesn't, things only he can do that the original Batman could not. While it might have been revealed that Terry is a pseudo-clone of sorts of Bruce, they are not identical; they had very different upbringings and different things they brought to the Batman mantle. With both his individual skills and an upgraded suit (only worn by Bruce briefly), Terry touts 15 unique traits, abilities and pieces of equipment that original Batman didn't, and may never have.

15 FLIGHT

Let's start with one of the big ones, the flight capabilities of Terry's Batsuit. With the help of boosters in his boots and retractable wings, Terry can fly over great distances, much farther than Batman could glide with his cape. Though it is not perfect and cannot go past a certain distance or height — which is why he uses his futuristic, flying Batmobile — the flight abilities of this Batsuit are part of what made Batman Beyond so cool.

Terry was able to use his suit's fight to get out of some tight situations and save countless people from falling to their doom. It also really worked with the bat-motif, since the wings came out from under Terry's arms -- functional and aesthetically pleasing!

14 BUILD-IN BATARANGS

Using a Batarang is pretty difficult -- it requires speed and accuracy that comes with a lot of training. One thing that could throw off Batman in using his signature Batarangs is digging in his utility belt for the right one to throw. Luckily, Terry doesn't have that problem thanks to the suit's built-in Batarang dispenser, which feeds a collapsable Batarang right into his hand.

But, that's not all! Terry's Batsuit also has secondary Batarang dispensers that are located on the top of his wrists and shoot miniature Batarang discs at high speeds and varying consistency. Essentially, Terry is never without a Batarang, something he has over the original Batman.

13 INVISIBILITY

Batman was a master of stealth; he could use the shadows to his advantage and disappear without a trace, something of an invisible force. However, the original Batsuit, aside from being dark colored, didn't do too much to actually help Batman to disappear.

Terry's suit, however, had a built-in cloaking device that could turn Terry 100% invisible, a tactic he'd use for stealth, surveillance and surprise attacks. With a simple turn of his belt buckle, he became invisible to the naked eye, the only remnants of his appearance being the shadows on his body, which were probably only there so the viewers could still see him. Sure, Batman's stealth skills are cool, but they don't compare to actually being able to disappear.

12 CRIMINAL MIND

Terry wasn't exactly a stand-up-kid, he used to run around with a bad crowd, though he quit before becoming the new Batman. His gang member past actually does two important things for his character. The first is that it makes his run as Batman both a form of vengeance for his father's death and a redemption for his mistakes.

Second, Terry's criminal past gives him insight to how his opponents think. He can get into the mind of a criminal, he knows likely gang hangouts and most importantly, he knows how to get information on the streets and even who is likely to give it. Bruce Wayne might have been a skilled criminal profiler and detective, but real experience and contacts are hard to beat.

11 STREET FIGHTER

Another thing that Terry's gang member past gives him is a strong street-fighting style. Actual martial-arts ability and using an opponent's strength against them is definitely useful for a vigilante, but street-brawling has its merits as well. For example, Terry knows how to fight dirty and, more importantly, how to combat against dirty fighters.

Furthermore, Terry can probably take a lot of damage, both because of his Batsuit and because it's sometimes a style of street fighters to take a small hit so they can get a big one in. It might not be polished, but Terry's street-fighting style brings something unique to his version of Batman.

10 SUPER STRENGTH

Of course, one of the biggest assets in a fight is the strength that the advanced Batsuit gives Terry, which allows him to lift steel girders and other things outside of the normal levels of everyday folks, or even enhanced humans. Thanks to nano-technology and strength-enhancing servos, Terry's suit acts a lot like Iron Man's, enhancing his strength far beyond that of a normal human.

Terry has used this strength to take on enemies stronger than him and to brute-force his way out of tough situations, something that not even Batman had the ability to do. Of course, Batman always outsmarted his stronger enemies, but a boost in muscle doesn't hurt to have.

9 LIE-DETECTOR

Batman in Batman Beyond

Modern versions of Batman have pretty frequently depicted his suit being full of sensors that can detect sounds from a distance, monitor communications and detect multiple visual spectrums. In the case of the Arkham game series, Batman's suit could even monitor the heart rates of those around him.

We've yet to see these kinds of sensors in the mainline comics, but we definitely saw this kind of sensory surveillance in Terry's suit, including a heart rate monitor precise enough to act as a polygraph, allowing him to tell when people are lying. Not even the sensors in the Arkham games helped with that.

8 INCREASED DURABILITY

Depending on what era of comics you're looking at, Batman's suit is pretty durable. It's always acted as a form of armor for the Dark Knight, and in most cases could stop a bullet, though not without bruising the heck out of Bruce. The Batman Beyond suit, on the other hand, was essentially a cloth-like suit of armor, complete with ballistic protection far beyond that of older suits.

Terry has taken much more damage than Bruce ever has, his suit getting him through every time. It's not completely indestructible, but the Beyond Batsuit is a huge upgrade in terms of increasing the user's durability.

7 ENVIRONMENTAL RESISTANCE

It's not just physical, ballistic attacks that Terry's Batsuit protects against, is also has a ton of resistance to environmental dangers. Terry has been shown surviving massive loads of radiation, burning fires, the crushing weight of water pressure and even direct electrical attacks.

With these features in his suit, Terry can survive a lot of dangerous situations, which is good since he's a bit more reckless than Bruce was and often finds himself in situations that might otherwise severely or fatally injure him were it not for his suit's resistance. The radiation resistance was also key in facing one of his greatest villains, Blight.

6 WALL-CLIMBING

Some people have said that Batman Beyond was like if Spider-Man was Batman, since Terry was a fast-talking, quick-witted teenager who suddenly gained responsibility in the form of being a superhero. There are plenty of other comparisons, like their shared ability to stick to walls. Of course, Spider-Man's comes from his spider powers, and Terry's comes from the Batsuit's climbing capabilities.

With the help of electromagnetic boots and claws in the gloves, Terry is able to effectively climb most surfaces, something that is especially helpful when sneaking into buildings, stealthily attacking from above or saving him from a fall should his wings and jets fail.

5 BUILT-IN CLAWS

Batman-Beyond

Speaking of the Batsuit's claws, they come in... handy... for more than just climbing. No, we will not apologize for that pun. Regardless, the claws in Terry's suit also serve as weapons for hand-to-hand combat, allowing him to slash and disarm his opponents. And, with how strong they've been shown to be — capable of cutting through some pretty durable materials — it's a wonder why we didn't see them used more in the cartoon.

The claws can also be used in busting into criminal lairs or breaking... well, anything that needs breaking. Plus, they fit with the Bat theme, making Batman Beyond yet again far more bat-like than the original.

4 LASERS

When the Beyond Batsuit's claws aren't enough, Terry also has a wrist-mounted laser that only made a few appearances throughout the series. Regardless of whether or not it can be used often — perhaps it uses up a lot of energy or burns out quickly, or maybe it's just plain dangerous — it's still a powerful tool in Terry's arsenal.

Terry used it to break into a building and we imagine it could also be used offensively against superhuman opponents with durability far too strong for Batarangs or claws to break through. Also, a wrist-mounted laser is just plain cool, let's be honest.

3 BREATH UNDERWATER

Batman has had plenty of underwater adventures, usually involving either a bat-themed boat/sub or a full-on underwater-specific Batsuit. Batman Beyond, on the other hand, didn't require a special suit for different environments, his Batsuit was able to keep him safe and alive in pretty much any situation, including being underwater.

The Batsuit has been shown to have a built-in rebreather — a respirator that most likely converts water into oxygen instead of using an air tank — and as mentioned, it could handle the dangers of water pressure, all that without having to put on a Bat-Scuba-Suit or having to call Aquaman.

2 BUILT-IN BUZZ-SAW

beyond

Some of the coolest features of the Batman Beyond Batsuit were the transforming gadgets, things that look like they serve one purpose when instead they serve several. One great example is his belt buckle, which not only activated his cloaking, it also served as an extra weapon and tool.

By removing the belt buckle, it would transform into a cool, three-bladed buzzsaw-like device that Terry used to cut through thick glass and other tough materials. This buzzsaw is exactly the kind of cool gadget that makes Batman's equipment seem so cool, but we only saw this one on Terry's suit. Man, he sure has a lot of cutting gadgets, doesn't he?

1 HE DEFEATED THE JOKER

Batman has bested the Joker plenty of times, beating him into submission or putting him in jail. Yet, every time, he would always find a way to escape and start a new crime spree. Because of his moral code, Batman could never bring himself to end the threat of the Joker "once and for all," thus he could never truly defeat him.

But, where Bruce failed in defeating the clown prince of crime, Terry McGinnis succeed, and he did so without killing The Joker. By giving him what he wanted -- for Batman to laugh at him -- Terry played mind games with the mind-gamer, mentally breaking him so that he could take the wind from his maniacal sails, something Bruce might have never thought to do.
