WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Batman: Beyond the White Knight #1, on sale now from DC Comics.

Batman: Curse of the White Knight made a major change to the mainstream continuity by revealing that Jason Todd was actually the first Robin in place of Dick Grayson. However, in this case Jason didn't die by Joker's hands; he fled after a torture session in which he revealed Batman's true identity.

Bruce apprehended the Joker with the help of Harley Quinn years later and turned himself in as well, possibly in an effort to absolve himself of the guilt he felt about what happened to Jason. However, in Beyond the White Knight #1 (by Sean Gordon Murphy, Dave Stewart and AndWorld Design), Todd is finally able to reconcile with his mentor and, more importantly, reveal an all new version of the Dynamic Duo.

Jason and Bruce reconcile in Batman: Beyond the White Knight

Jason returned as the warden of the prison where Bruce was held, with Commissioner Barbara Gordon and Renee Montoya realizing that he was one of the few people who could keep the ex-Caped Crusader at bay. However, Jason was still bitter and resentful towards Bruce over his being used as a child soldier and the PTSD he suffered later. This all came to a head when Bruce saved him from the Sons of Azrael and used the opportunity to express a desire to make things right between them. Although Jason was initially stubborn and resistant, they were eventually able to resolve their differences in a heartfelt conversation.

Bruce affirmed to Jason that he was irreplaceable while Todd discussed his fears and feelings of inadequacy. Unable to cope with his insecurities, the former Boy Wonder became a mercenary, bodyguard and soldier. As their conversation came to an end, Todd's joked about being more like Batman than Bruce realized, and his mind flashed to an image of him as the Red Hood, complete with his own bow and arrow wielding female version of Robin. This appearance has sparked speculation about whether or not this is Carrie Kelly, who first appeared as the Girl Wonder in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.

Red Hood has a Robin in Batman: Beyond the White Knight

Few details have been given regarding this new Dynamic Duo, but the upcoming Batman: White Knight Presents: Red Hood is sure to explore this new addition to the Bat-Family. The story will more than likely be a flashback tale, as the creative team has confirmed that this will be a backstory for Jason Todd meant to explain his behavior in this issue.

Notably, Jason still appears to be using his iconic handguns as Red Hood in the image, suggesting that even in this world he resorted to a more aggressive and lethal form of vigilantism. It also raises the question of what he is teaching his prodigy, and exactly what kind of dynamic this new duo will bring to his version of Gotham City.
