The replacement for Batman's Arkham Asylum will be erected in the very heart of Gotham City in the upcoming pages of Detective Comics #1044.

The new home for Batman's rogues, named Arkham Tower, will be the given the green light by Gotham City Mayor Christopher Nakano in "Arkham Rising," a backup story in Detective Comics #1044 written by Stephanie Phillips with art by David Lapham. According to DC's October 2021 solicitations, "strange and horrific" happenings will occur at the tower's construction site. The issue's main story, penned by Mariko Tamaki with art by Dan Mora, features Batman confronting a monstrous threat in the sewers beneath Gotham while protecting Mayor Nakano.

Arkham Asylum was wrecked by an explosion in Infinite Frontier #0 following a massive chemical attack seemingly carried out by the Joker. The attack left most of the facility's employees and inmates dead with rictus smiles on their faces, including the villain Bane, with the event being dubbed "A-Day."

The new tower version of Arkham is reminiscent of the plot of the Batman: Arkham City video game by Rocksteady Studios. In the game, a dilapidated district of Gotham was converted into a prison facility for Arkham inmates. Arkham's switch from the outskirts of Gotham to a downtown location is also reminiscent of Batman's exploits in the 1970s. During that decade, the Caped Crusader moved out of Wayne Manor and into a penthouse in the Wayne Foundation Building, arguing that he needed to be closer to the city's action.

Batman repeated this move following last year's "Joker War" story arc after the Clown Prince of Crime stole the Wayne family fortune, forcing him to streamline his operations. The Dark Knight currently operates out of a brownstone within Gotham's interior.
