An action sequence from the ill-fated Batgirl DC Extended Universe movie surfaced online.

Posted to Twitter by actor Ivory Aquino, who was set to star alongside Leslie Grace's Barbara Gordon as Alysia Yeoh, the brief clip, originally shared by stuntperson Emely Cartagena, focuses on the behind-the-scenes shooting of what would have seemingly been an explosive moment. The video sees Batgirl herself tumbling through an open skylight into what appears to be some kind of banquet hall. To stop her fall, she latches onto a gigantic, illuminated Christmas tree, bringing the decoration to the ground. The context for the shot is currently unknown but various extras can be seen fleeing as the electrics spark and collapse.

While many comic book fans were excited to see Barbara Gordon step into the spotlight for her first live-action solo movie, Warner Bros. Discovery made headlines by canceling the film despite the production having wrapped numerous elements. The project, intended to debut on HBO Max, was terminated due to the company's "strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max." While some reports have suggested that the movie was canceled due to its "irredeemably" bad quality, these have been debunked by several insiders.

Following Batgirl's cancelation, Aquino has openly expressed her disappointment in Warner Bros. Discovery's decision, championing the movie's diversity and representation. "Batgirl was truly a labor of love we were excited & eager to share with you all who’ve championed this inspiring character & our fam of nontraditional underrepresented peeps having the opportunity to share with the world that ANYONE & EVERYONE can be a superhero," Aquino wrote.

Batgirl's directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah similarly voiced their sadness at the movie's termination, noting that while audiences may not be able to watch their film, they still appreciate the support. "In any case, as huge fans of Batman since we were little kids, it was a privilege and an honor to have been a part of the DCEU, even if it was for a brief moment," wrote the directing duo.

Meant to serve as an original story of the eponymous superhero, Batgirl would have also seen the return of Michael Keaton as the Caped Crusader. Many believed that he was intended to serve as Barbara Gordon's mentor, having been brought into the DCEU thanks to multiverse shenanigans featured in the upcoming Flash movie, within which he will also appear.
