Set photos and videos from Batgirl seem to tease the DC Extended Universe's first trans character: Alysia Yeoh.Posted by @BatgirlFilm on Twitter, several set videos and photo show actor Ivory Aquino on set with Leslie Grace, who plays Barbara Gordon in the film. The captions on the images claim Aquino is playing Yeoh. However, at this time, that casting has not been officially announced, and it's possible the poster is mistaken.RELATED: Batgirl Set Photo Teases an Important Year One Plot Point

Created by Gail Simone and Ardian Syaf, Yeoh first appeared in 2011's Batgirl #1 and was Gordon's roommate. Later, in Batgirl #45, Yeoh married her girlfriend, Jo Muñoz. There have been rumors that Yeoh would play a role in Batgirl for several months, though they've never been officially confirmed.

Aquino is an actor best known for playing Cecilia Chung in 2017's When We Rise, a documentary miniseries about LGBT rights in the United States. Both Aquino and Chung are prominent transgender rights activists. Outside of When We Rise, Aquino has acted in a number of different stage productions of Shakespeare plays and appeared in an episode of FBI: Most Wanted in 2020.

These photos of Aquino on set are the latest to come out of production on Batgirl. Recently, photos have also revealed Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne/Batman and his Robin as well as potential references to classic Batman villain Hugo Strange and Young Justice's Klarion the Witch Boy.

Announced in 2017, Batgirl was originally slated to be written, directed and produced by Avengers' Joss Whedon. However, Whedon eventually departed Batgirl, saying he was unable to come up with a story. Since then, The Flash, Birds of Prey and Bumbleebee writer Christina Hodson has boarded the project, with Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah attached to direct.

At this time, plot details surrounding Batgirl are scarce. There is, though, some indication the movie draws from 2003's Batgirl: Year One, by Scott Beatty, Chuck Dixon, Marcos Martin and Alvaro Lopez. The biggest indicators of that inspiration are references to Anthony Bressi and Brendan Fraser's casting as Firefly, the movie's villain. Additionally, Batgirl is also rumored to set up a solo film centered on Black Canary.

Batgirl will premiere exclusively on HBO Max in 2022. The film does not yet have an exact release date at this time.
