Batgirl star Leslie Grace appears to have teased a connection to the second Robin and eventual Red Hood, Jason Todd, in the upcoming DC Extended Universe film.

In an Instagram story, Grace shared a photo of 1983's Detective Comics #526 from writer Gerry Conway and late artist Don Newton, which marked Batman's 500th appearance in the book. Aside from that, the issue is significant to the history of Jason Todd. In it, Jason not only gets taken to Wayne Manor by his predecessor Dick Grayson and learns that Bruce Wayne is Batman but also learns that his parents were murdered by then-newcomer to the Dark Knight's rogues gallery Killer Croc (a revelation that would no longer be canon following Crisis on Infinite Earths). Jason is soon adopted by Bruce.

While plot details for the film are currently scarce, Grace discussed how Batgirl showcases Barbara Gordon's evolution into a detective. "I will say one of my favorite things about our script and the heart of our movie is that you get to see Babs and this alter-ego that she summons up, Batgirl, vacillate between the nuances of life and good and bad and black and white, and that there so much in between," the actor said. "At the end of the day, in Gotham, so there's always a case, right? It's kind of like an investigative story, it's a detective story, so she does have a case that drives her into these crazy situations."

Additionally, Grace revealed she's anticipating a Batgirl sequel. "We got to see this first one first," she said. "But there's definitely some talks about what it could be. I've seen some of what we've shot, obviously in the playback and stuff like that, and it's insane. We've already been talking about where do we take this from here because there's so much that happens in this film." During the same interview, Grace explained that Batgirl's plot has "a lot of different themes" that the cast and crew delve into, with one such theme being "looking at the world through a lens that isn't just black and white and seeing the color and the spectrum between things."

Grace isn't the only Batgirl star to discuss the movie. Earlier this year, returning Commissioner Gordon actor J.K. Simmons talked about the character's larger role in it compared to 2017's Justice League, saying that Batgirl "was a chance to delve into a different aspect of [Commissioner Gordon]."

Batgirl is currently set to arrive on HBO Max in 2022.
