The upcoming Batgirl movie is calling in a familiar face to play Barbara Gordon's father.

According to THRJustice League's J.K. Simmons is in talks to reprise his role as Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon for the film.

Simmons played Gordon in both Justice League and Zack Snyder's Justice League, with only the former officially considered DC Extended Universe canon. However, with Jeffrey Wright set to play Gordon for Matt Reeves' The Batman -- a decidedly out-of-continuity DC movie -- it stands to reason that the HBO Max-bound Batgirl is very much part of the DCEU proper.

News of Simmons returning follows the recent announcement that In the Heights star Leslie Grace would play the eponymous Gotham City vigilante.

Batgirl was announced in March 2017, at which time it was said that Joss Whedon would write, direct and produce the film. There was little movement on the project in the months that followed, but in February 2018, it was announced that Whedon had departed. Then, in May 2021, it was confirmed that Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah would helm the project, based on a script by The Flash and Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) writer Christina Hodson.

Batgirl has yet to receive a release date.
