Photos from the set of Warner Bros. and DC Films' Batgirl show a snowy, wintertime Gotham.

The photos, provided by the Glasgow Times, depict the Batgirl camera crew transforming a city street in Glasgow, Scotland, where production on Batgirl has begun, into a wintery landscape using fake snow and ice to cover the sidewalk and nearby cars.

This isn't the first indication that Batgirl would be set in the winter/Christmastime. Filming for Warner Bros., DC Films and HBO Max's Batgirl movie began in late November 2021. Co-director Adil El Arbi announced the start of production with a picture of a clapperboard, along with the logo for the upcoming film which will star Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. The photo also included some garland, further teasing the possible Christmas theme.

While story details surrounding Batgirl have not yet been revealed, the photo shared by Arbi also showed what appeared to be a copy of Simon Singh's The Code Book: The Science of Secrecy from Ancient Egypt to Quantum Cryptography as well as a desk nameplate. The nameplate could suggest that the film will feature Barbara Gordon as a full-fledged police officer in Gotham City, though this has not been confirmed.

It was recently announced that Brendan Fraser had officially begun filming on Batgirl as the film's lead antagonist, Firefly. Fraser joins Grace, who was announced as the live-action Barbara Gordon in July of this year, as well as actor J.K. Simmons, who plays the DC Extended Universe's Commissioner James Gordon.

The film was first announced in March 2017 with Joss Whedon attached to write, direct and produce the film at the time, though he departed the project nearly a year later. However, it was confirmed in 2021 that Arbi and his directing partner Bilall Fallah would take over the project with a script from Christina Hodson, who wrote for The Flash and Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

"With Batgirl, we hope to take the audience on a fun ride and see a different side of Gotham," producer Kristin Burr said in May. "Christina's script is crackling with spirit. Adil and [co-director Bilall Fallah] have an excited and joyous energy which is infectious, making them the perfect filmmakers for this Batproject. And I’m just psyched I get to be part of the DC universe, which is super cool."

Batgirl will premiere exclusively on HBO Max and has yet to receive a release date.
