A set photo from production on the upcoming Batgirl movie has fans speculating Klarion the Witch Boy, a key Young Justice villain, may make his DC Extended Universe debut in the film.
Posted to r/DCEUleaks on Reddit, the image, which was taken on the set of Batgirl in Glasgow, Scotland, shows a silhouette that resembles Klarion's. This resulted in a number of comments speculating this Easter egg may indicate that Klarion is playing some role in the film. Additionally, another photo in the set features a place called "Bressi," which may be a reference to Batman villain Anthony Bressi. At this time, neither Klarion or Bressi are confirmed for Batgirl, and even if these Easter eggs are present in the final cut, there's no guarantee either character will appear on screen.
Created y Jack Kirby, Klarion the Witch Boy first appeared in 1973's The Demon #7. Klarion uses evil magic to defeat his foes and originally served as an enemy of Etrigan the Demon. However, over the years, Klarion has become more associated with Young Justice. The character appeared in the Young Justice animated series, where he was voiced by Thom Adcox-Hernandez.
Created by Chuck Dixon and Graham Nolan, Bressi debuted in 1992's Robin III: Cry of the Huntress #1. Bressi is a criminal connected to Gotham's crime families. Bressi actually played a key role in Scott Beatty, Chuck Dixon, Marcos Martin and Alvaro Lopez's Batgirl: Year One, which released in 2003. In that story, Bressi serves as a major antagonist for Batgirl and is connected to Firefly, who will be played in the DCEU film by Brendan Fraser.
These potential references are the latest teases from Batgirl set photos. Recent set photos also have fans speculating Hugo Strange -- one of Batman's oldest villains -- may play a role or be referenced in the film. Other set photos have provided a look at Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne/Batman and his Robin.
Announced in 2017, Batgirl was originally slated to be written, directed and produced by Avengers' Joss Whedon. However, Whedon left the project not long after. While production seemingly stalled out on the project, Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah later signed on to the film. Christina Hodson, who wrote The Flash, Birds of Prey and Bumblebee, penned the script, which stars Leslie Grace.
Starring Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Batgirl will premiere exclusively on HBO Max. The film does not yet have a release date.
