HBO Max's Batgirl may be bringing Nightwing to the DC Extended Universe.

A rumor from CrazyDaysandNights suggests that Batgirl's casting director has found the film's Dick Grayson. Though the source does not reveal who will be playing Barbara Gordon's frequent love interest, it claims that it will be "an actor we know all too well from MTV" and that an official announcement on the actor's casting will be coming soon. Should this information prove true, it would make Batgirl the first live-action film to incorporate Nightwing into its story.

In the comics, Nightwing is Dick Grayson, a former acrobat and Batman's first sidekick. The character has been rumored to appear in the DCEU since Zack Snyder's Man of Steel in 2013, where many believed that Adam Driver would play him. Though that fan theory didn't pan out, time showed that Snyder did have plans for Dick. At one point in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Batman lingers over Robin's battle-damaged costume. Snyder revealed that, while the film didn't explicitly state which of Batman's sidekicks had perished fighting The Joker, he intended for the dead Robin to be Dick. However, if Batgirl's rumor is accurate, this may no longer be the case.

While the status of Nightwing's arrival is still up in the air, further leaks from the set of Batgirl seem to suggest that the film will incorporate Dick into the movie one way or another. A magazine cover seen on the film's production alludes to the Court of Owls' presence while teasing an interview with a "former circus child star" they tried to recruit. During DC's New 52, the Court tried to mold Dick into an operative before Bruce Wayne adopted him. The photo implies Batgirl could incorporate a similar plot point into the film, even if it is just as an Easter egg.

Though it remains to be seen if Nightwing will join Leslie Grace's Batgirl, she won't be fighting crime alone in Gotham City. After appearing as Batman in The Flash, Michael Keaton will remain in the DCEU for Batgirl, seemingly replacing Ben Affleck's incarnation of Bruce Wayne. Additionally, the film will bring back J.K. Simmons as Barbara's father, police commissioner James Gordon, reprising his role from Justice League. Finally, Brendan Fraser will portray the Firefly, whose comic book counterpart faced off against Barbara in Batgirl: Year One, one of the film's primary influences.

Batgirl will be available to watch exclusively on HBO Max. There is no release date set for the film at this time.
