Bardem 'Locked In Psychologically' To The Dark Tower, Grazer Says

Producer Brian Grazer has confirmed that Academy Award winner Javier Bardem is in talks to star in Ron Howard's much-discussed adaptation of The Dark Tower.

"He's locked in psychologically," Grazer, Howard's partner at Imagine Entertainment, told MTV News. "He really wants to do it, so we're absolutely rooting for him to do it."

Bardem, best known in the United States for his unnerving performance in No Country for Old Men, was offered the role of Stephen King's gunslinger Roland Deschain in January, presumably edging out fellow frontrunner Viggo Mortensen.

The ambitious approach to King's popular fantasy epic by Universal Pictures and NBC Universal calls for a film trilogy and a television series -- a major commitment for the actors and creators. Howard will direct the initial film and first season of the TV show, which will be written by producer Akiva Goldsman.
