Amy Schumer explained why she was replaced by Margot Robbie as the iconic doll in Barbie.

Schumer, who was attached to the role of Barbie years ago, told Vulture that she left the project because of creative differences. "I think we said it was scheduling conflicts," she claimed. "But it really was just like, creative differences." Robbie took over the titular role once Greta Gerwig, who previously directed Academy Award-nominated films Ladybird and Little Women, signed on to helm the movie. Now that a new creative team is behind the film, Schumer added that she is excited to see it. "It looks like it’s very feminist and cool, so I will be seeing this movie."

Even after Robbie was cast, she had doubts that Barbie would ever get made. In reference to the script written by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, who has received similar acclaim for writing and directing films such as Marriage Story and Frances Ha, Robbie said, "The first time I read the Barbie script, my reaction was, 'Ah! This is so good. What a shame it will never see the light of day, because they are never going to let us make this movie,'" she revealed. "But they did."

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling Become Barbie and Ken

Joining Robbie in Barbie is critically acclaimed actor Ryan Gosling. While Gosling has been praised by fans and critics for his roles in movies such as La La Land and Blade Runner 2049, his casting as Ken was controversial, with many suggesting he is too old for the part. In response, Gosling claimed that those who are against his casting are hypocrites. Pointing out that fans and even the character of Barbie never cared about Ken, he said, "Suddenly, it's like, 'No, we've cared about Ken this whole time.' No, you didn't. You never did. You never cared. Barbie never f***ed with Ken. That's the point. If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. So your hypocrisy is exposed. This is why his story must be told."

Even if certain fans are not on board with Gosling as Ken, following the official trailer for Barbie, he noted that "there are many other Kens to play with." Alongside Robbie and Gosling, actors Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, and John Cena play residents of Barbieland in the movie.

Barbie premieres in theaters on July 21.
