A Barbarella television series is on the way, and it has a respectable pedigree. The project, which was announced in June, has reportedly landed Skyfall writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

The news comes from Deadline, which also reports that Drive director Nicholas Winding Refn will helm the series. The project is coming from Gaumont International Television and is being executive produced by Refn and Martha De Laurentiis. Julien Forst and Jean-Marc Lofficier will co-executive produce.

There's no word yet on when or where this project will debut, but it reportedly is being based on the original Jean-Claude Forest comic book instead of the 1968 film starring Jane Fonda. Barbarella tells the story of a woman named Barbarella who travels from planet to planet and often has sex with the aliens she meets.

Sounds like it would be good ABC Family fare, right?
