The opening animation for Scarlet Nexus has arrived.
On Thursday, the Bandai Namco Entertainment America Youtube channel debuted the opening animated sequence for Bandai Namco's upcoming third-person, action RPG Scarlet Nexus. Animated by Sunrise, the studio behind classic anime Code Geass and its various spin-offs, Cowboy Bebop, InuYasha and Mobile Suit Gundam, Scarlet Nexus' opening demonstrates Bandai Namco's penchant for blurring the line between video games and anime. Scarlet Nexus' opening, which has already raised comparisons to PlatinumGames' anime-inspired Astral Chain, features the song "Dream in Drive" by the J-rock band The Oral Cigarettes, who have a history of their songs being featured in popular anime like Sakurada Reset and Noragami.
In addition to producing and animating the game's opening, Sunrise is also producing an anime series based on Scarlet Nexus that will premiere sometime in July 2021. The series will be licensed by Funimation and will stream on the site in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the United Kingdom and Ireland. The anime will also stream on AnimeLab in Australia and New Zealand and on Wakanim in Russia, France, Germany and Scandinavian countries.
Bandai Namco's Scarlet Nexus unites video game developers Keita Iizuka (Code Vein) and Kenji Anabuki (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate) once more, as the two have previously worked on games in the Tales series together, most notably Tales of Vesperia. Keita Iizuka will produce Scarlet Nexus and Kenji Anabuki will act as director. Scarlet Nexus is set to launch onto Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Steam June 25. The Xbox Series X version of the game will feature 4K Ultra HD graphics and will launch through Xbox's Smart Delivery service.
Scarlet Nexus will immerse audiences into an anime and western science fiction-inspired apocalyptic Japan overrun by mysterious creatures called Others who devour and consume people. Players can assume the role of Yuito Sumeragi, a psycho-kinetic young man who desperately wishes to join the elite Other Suppression Force who saved his life as a child, or Kasane Randall, a troubled prodigy and clairvoyant scouted by the Other Suppression Force.
The game will allow players to use Yuito and Kasane's psycho-kinetic abilities, as well as swords and other short-range weapons, to fight off the invading Others. It offers two interconnected but unique campaigns, depending on which character players choose. The game will also introduce players to the "brain link" function, allowing the player character to acquire the unique combat abilities of non-playable companion characters.
