Lae'zal

Baldur's Gate 3

Lae'zal is the Githyanki Fighter that is as ruthless on the battlefield as she is off. Players first meet her on the Nautiloid, where she'll help players escape but is removed from the party once the Prologue finishes.

Players can find her again just a little past the Roadside Cliffs Waypoint. She's been captured by some tieflings who can be persuaded to let her go or killed. She will then join the party and tells players of a cure for their tadpoles.

Lae'zel is the tank of the party. She has proficiency in Strength and Consitution saving throws, simple and martial weapons and all armor. At level two, she will have the option to choose what discipline she goes into and can choose from Duelist, Defense, Archery, Two-Weapon Fighting or Great Weapon Fighting.

At level three, Lae'zel's can add some magic to the mix. She can subclass as an Eldritch Knight and have two cantrips and two first level spells, or if players want the tankiest of tanks, the Battle Master subclass is available. Lae'zel will get four superiority dice and have Menacing and Pushing Back attacks.

Shadowheart

Baldurs Gate 3

Shadowheart is a High Half-Elf cleric and a follower of Shar. She, depending on the player's class, is the healer of the party. But don't think just because she can get you back on your feet that she is all warm and cuddly. Shadowheart can be just as ruthless as Lae'zel and will do everything she can to get her tadpole out of her head.

She can be found at the entrance to the Abandoned Ruins just a little way down the beach from the crashed Nautiloid. She's a bit jumpy at first, but players should be able to convince her to join the party.

As a cleric, Shadowheart has proficiency in Wisdom saving throws, shields, simple weapons, light and medium armor, as well as religion and insight. She has the Trickery Domain which gives her the Blessing of the Trickster and grants others stealth check advantages. This is with the three other cantrips and three first level spells at her disposal.

With each level, she will get even more spell slots and the ability to cast her other spells at higher levels. Healing Word and Cure Wounds are excellent healing spells that are essential in Shadowheart's repertoire. And if players want her to deal some magical damage, Guiding Bolt is the overpowered choice.

Gale

Baldur's Gate 3

Gale is the human wizard that has a heart of gold who is hiding a nasty secret.  He can be found to the right of the Nautiloid ship right in front of the Roadside Cliffs Waypoint. He will approach the player and suggest that they'll have a better chance of fixing their parasite problem together. If players accept, they'll have a powerful magic-wielding ally at their side.

Being a wizard, Gale has proficiency in Intelligence and Wisdom saving throws, quarterstaffs, daggers, darts, slings and light crossbows but has no proficiency in any armor. Even light armor will cancel his ability to cast spells. However, he makes for it by being able to learn new spells from scrolls after paying a small fee.

At level two, Gale can choose between the Abjuration or Evocation School. Abjuration focuses mainly on defense and allows players to learn Protection from Evil and Good and Arcane Ward. Evocation focuses on damage and allows players to learn Ray of Sickness and Sculpt Spells.

Wyll

Baldur's Gate 3

Wyll is a human warlock who has made a regretful deal with a cambion. He believes in helping others and defeating monsters, so it's no surprise that players will meet him defending the innocent in the Druid's Grove.

Wyll's spellcasting ability is Charisma, and he has proficiency in Charisma and Wisdom saving throws, persuasions, intimidation, light armor and simple weapons. Much like Gale, though, any armor other than light will cancel his spellcasting abilities.

Wyll also has the Fiend subclass. This subclass focuses on dealing damage and will give him the Dark One's Blessing after killing a creature. Dark One's Blessing will give him temporary hit points based on his Charisma modifier. This blessing is just one of many things in Wyll's skill set as he will have access to two cantrips and two first level spells at level one.

Astarion

Baldur's Gate 3

Astarion is a High Elf rogue who is also a vampire spawn. He can be found on the upper left side of the crashed Nautiloid ship. Players will hear his calls for help and after a quick tumble, he'll be happy to join the party.

As a rogue, he is proficient in some simple weapons, stealth, sleight of hand, deception and Dexterity saving throws. At level three, he can choose from Arcane Trickster or Thief. Both are great options depending on the player's build, but Arcane Trickster gives access to two cantrips and two first level spells, while Thief allows him to have resistance to falling damage and an extra bonus action.
