After teasing the imminent arrival of the beloved '80s childhood fad in comics, IDW Publishing has released the first solid details on its Garbage Pail Kids project via the company's December 2014 solicitations.
During July's Comic-Con International, IDW announced it had landed the license to create comics based on Topps' infamous sticker set featuring characters like Adam Bomb - who graced the wax paper wrapping of the initial sets -- Ali Gator, Jolted Joel and Dead Ted.
Created by Art Spiegelman, the gross-out collectible cards and stickers exploded onto playgrounds and schoolyards in 1985, much to the dismay of parents and teachers everywhere, and to the delight of millions of kids. The cards, which lampooned the then mega-popular Cabbage Patch Kids, were an instant hit, and a total of 15 series were released as part of the initial run, with more appearing sporadically in the decades that followed. Topps relaunched the property again in early 2014.
Under the care of Dean Haspiel, Peter Bagge and 'the most righteous creators in alternative comics,' the Kids celebrate their 30th anniversary in December when IDW releases a one-shot anthology, with the publisher promising more in 2015.
