15 "While I Live — And Until I Die — I Am An Avenger!"

The Avengers Vol. 1, Issue #84, "The Sword and the Sorceress"

Scarlet Witch of the MCU took a bit of time to settle into her hero status. Her comic version had a settling period as well, which is why this quote is so powerful. Here, fans see Wanda Maximoff acknowledging who and what she is.

Wanda Maximoff is an Avenger. This is one of those quotes that'll send tingles down fans' spines because it revealed that no matter what Wanda was forced to deal with in her life, she could always find strength in the fact she would always be one of the strongest Avengers.

14 "Your Ego Blinds You To The Truth, Pietro. It Always Has."

Uncanny Avengers Vol. 3, Issue #29, "Stars and Garters, Part Two: Broken Bones"

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver from Marvel Comics

"Synapse nearly died because of you, and you alone. Until you can accept that and atone for it, you won't be welcome here.” Quicksilver briefly worked with the Avengers Unity Squad that allied humans, mutants, and Inhumans together on the same team. However, his recklessness nearly cost his teammate her life, which fits Quicksilver's sometimes heroic and villainous history.

It takes a particular sort of badass to tell one's family off. And while it was something Scarlet Witch did put off, in the end, she stood up to Pietro and told him what he needed to hear — even if he didn't want to hear it. Furthermore, she took everything a step further by forcing Pietro to stay away until he was able to admit that to himself.

13 "Do You Know How It Felt? It Felt Like That."

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Wanda Maximoff kills Ultron.

Elizabeth Olsen made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wanda Maximoff alongside her twin brother, Pietro. Their first appearance was in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron. The powerful siblings were recruited by Ultron before they joined the Avengers to stop the android's plans for world destruction.

During the final battle on the floating city of Slovenia, Pietro sacrificed himself to save Hawkeye and a young child from a hail of bullets fired by Ultron. Wanda was able to get her revenge on Ultron by ripping out his robotic heart and crushing it with her telekinesis. She gave Ultron a small taste of what she was feeling after the death of her twin brother.

12 "You Were Right, Billy. I Am The Scarlet Witch... And I Remember Everything."

Young Avengers: The Children's Crusade

Wanda Maximoff as Scarlet Witch.

After Wanda disappeared following the events of House of M, she reappeared later with no apparent memory of her life. However, she was hunted down by her reincarnated sons in Young Avengers: The Children's Crusade. Not only were they able to locate the missing Scarlet Witch, but they also helped restore her memories.

There's no greater feeling of tension than witnessing a character regain her memory, and thus everything that makes her who and what she is. It's probably best if everybody just lets Scarlet Witch do her thing, rather than mess with her. Unfortunately, antagonists are rarely that smart.

11 "I Can't Control Their Fear, Only My Own."

Captain America: Civil War

Wanda Maximoff and Hawkeye in Captain America: Civil War.

The events of Captain America: Civil War saw Wanda Maximoff blamed for a tragic accident that took the lives of innocent civilians and placed the Avengers in the middle of an international accident. Scarlet Witch began to doubt her own abilities when she saw the fear her actions had created in the world.

Even her teammates in the Avengers began to fear her. Thankfully, Clint Barton/Hawkeye gave Wanda a boost of confidence when he recruited her to Captain America's team of Secret Avengers. She realized she can't do anything about other people's thoughts about her, but she could take action to control her own fears and self-doubts.

10 "Our Imperative Now Is To Join With The Avengers And Bring Stark To Justice. May The Lord Have Mercy On Us All."

The Crossing

The Scarlet Witch, her hands glowing pink and red, fights a glowing green monster.

Scarlet Witch hasn't always been a member of the Avengers, as she spent some time as a powerful member of Force Works. Whichever team she is on, the Scarlet Witch is one of the most loyal and determined members — even when that means going up against a long-time member of the Avengers: Tony Stark/Iron Man.

During The Crossing event, it was revealed that Tony Stark had been working with Kang the Conqueror for years. This meant that long-time allies like Scarlet Witch and the rest of Force Works were forced to team up with the Avengers to take down their oldest friend.

9 "You Took Everything From Me."

Avengers: Endgame

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff in Avengers: Endgame.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned — or a woman who has lost everything. The version of Thanos that Wanda finally encountered in Avengers: Endgame was from the past and had no knowledge of his future self's actions. He replied "I don't even know who you are," which allowed Wanda to deliver the intimidating response, "You will."

Wanda forced Thanos to make a hard choice here — lose himself, or risk his army. He chose to risk his army, of course, but she made him pay for fighting her. This moment not only proved Wanda was a badass, but also that she had the power to back it up.

8 "I'm Sorry, But This Will Hurt."

The Children's Crusade

Scarlet Witch from Marvel Comics.

After Wanda returned in The Children's Crusade, she took some time on her own to find herself and her place in the Marvel Universe. Her solo series that launched in 2016 saw her investigate a number of mystical and supernatural cases.

The Scarlet Witch's first case forced her to perform an exorcism on a detective who was possessed by a demonic entity known as a Sonneillon which spread a powerful "hate-virus." She may have been using her powerful magical abilities to save his life, but it sure wasn't going to feel nice.

7 "I Have Everything Under Control."

WandaVision

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff from WandaVision.

The Disney+ release of WandaVision took place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Wanda struggled to deal with the loss of Vision and their planned life together. She broke down and used her expanding powers to recreate the Vision and take control of a small town to live out her idyllic life.

Unfortunately, Wanda's uncontrolled use of her abilities worried the S.W.O.R.D. agents researching the phenomena. Wanda's reassurance that she had everything under control was anything but reassuring. However, it highlighted her own faith in her ability to make everything work out for her and her new family.

6 "There Is No Defense Against The Scarlet Witch's HEX!"

The Avengers #19

Scarlet Witch vs The Swordsman.

A rhyming threat from a witch is perhaps the most dangerous type of threat out there. One of Wanda Maximoff's earliest and most memorable quotes appeared in The Avengers #19. The former villain known as the Swordsman attacked the team in their own headquarters, hoping to prove his worth as a potential Avenger.

While the Swordsman made quick work of the small roster at the time, Scarlet Witch proved she shouldn't be underestimated. She knocked Swordsman out with a hex bolt that caused his sword to fly out of his hands and strike him in the chin. Swordsman would eventually earn his membership with the Avengers, but Wanda wasn't having any of it on their first encounter.

5 "I Don’t Need You To Tell Me Who I Am."

WandaVision

Scarlet Witch using her powers in WandaVision.

Wanda's takeover of the town of Westview in WandaVision introduced a powerful new element into the MCU. The dark witch named Agatha Harkness sensed Wanda's natural manipulation of magical energies and attempted to steal that power for herself.

Agatha revealed an ancient prophecy from the Darkhold about the Scarlet Witch, which matched up with Wanda's origins and increasing power. Wanda stepped into the role of Scarlet Witch during her climactic battle with Agatha Harkness, revealing she was who she was without Agatha Harkness' influence.

4 "Don't Look Back. The Past Is Exactly Where It Belongs."

Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch fighting her own past.

Not all badass quotes belong in a fight. Scarlet Witch has also been known to drop important lessons as well. Her solo series from 2016 saw her attempt to uncover the truth about her biological mother. Unfortunately, Wanda was forced to confront her own dark past in the process.

However, Wanda Maximoff was able to move past her trauma and move on with her life. The past is exactly that, so don't look back and keep on moving forward. It's a poignant thought, especially from one who has had so much loss in her life.

3 "And She Has Sealed Your Fate!"

The Mighty Avengers

Loki disguised as Scarlet Witch.

Wanda is such a powerful threat that other characters have used her image to manipulate others. Loki used his deceitful magic to alter his appearance in The Mighty Avengers and manipulated Hank Pym into forming a new team of Avengers to carry out a few missions.

When Stature learned of "Scarlet Witch's" evil motives, she called in the powerful members of the Young Avengers to help take down the powerful magic user. Loki/Scarlet Witch threatened the young team by revealing that Stature had brought her full power down upon them.

2 "You Break The Rules And Become A Hero. I Do It And I Become The Enemy. That Hardly Seems Fair."

Wanda/Scarlet Witch talking to Strange in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Still reeling from the events of WandaVision, a dark Scarlet Witch used the newfound control of her abilities as well as the magical tome known as the Darkhold to begin exploring the multiverse. Her search for her lost children carried over to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she began to question the fairness of the MCU.

Wanda called out the hypocrisy that separated her actions from those of Dr. Strange. He may be able to break the rules and mess with the timeline and be a hero, but when she did the same for personal reasons it made her a bad guy. This was just one of many moments that saw the Scarlet Witch become a villain.

1 "No More Mutants."

House of M

Scarlet Witch casting No More Mutants during House of M.

The Scarlet Witch's most impactful moment in the comics also provided her most badass quote. The House of M storyline saw a new reality created where mutantkind reigned over humanity. Wanda had been manipulated by her brother, Pietro, into creating the new world. Wanda was pushed too far, and she sought a way to end her father, Magneto's, dreams of mutant superiority.

With a simple phrase, Scarlet Witch's powerful abilities erased the majority of the mutants from the planet and almost wiped out the race completely. Scarlet Witch would eventually help restore the mutant race and make some amends, but it still stands as one of her most badass and tragic moments in the comics.
