Another Stephen King limited series is in the works, this one from Bad Robot Productions. According to Deadline, the author’s 2011 time-travel novel 11/22/63 is heading to Hulu.
Bad Robot acquired the rights a year and a half ago and just landed the nine-episode first season at Hulu, where gave a straight-to-series order.
“I’ve been a fan of Stephen King since I was in junior high school,” Abrams said in a statement. “The chance to work with him at all, let alone on a story so compelling, emotional and imaginative, is a dream.”
The novel follows an English teacher named Jake Epping who uses a time portal located in the storeroom of a diner to travel back to 1958. While there, he plans to change history by stopping the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
“If I ever wrote a book that cries out for long-form, event TV programming, 11/22/63 is it,” King said. “I’m excited that it’s going to happen, and am looking forward to working with J.J. Abrams and the whole Bad Robot team.”
King recorded a video explaining some of the behind-the-scenes elements of the book before its release:
