She'll reprise her role from 2003's Bad Boys II as Special Agent Sydney “Syd” Burnett, the sister of Detective Lieutenant Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and love interest of Detective Lieutenant Mike Lowrey (Will Smith). The series would follow Union's adventures as an undercover operative for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Deadline reports the untitled project originated from producer Jerry Bruckheimer's 2.0 Entertainment and Primary Wave Entertainment, which also manages Union. The actor's schedule opened up following the announcement that her BET series Being Mary Jane will end next year.

Michael Bay directed the previous two installments in the Bad Boys franchise. A third film, titled Bad Boys For Life, has a targeted Jan. 12, 2018, release date.
