WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Bad Boys For Life, in theaters now.

While the Bad Boys franchise has always been about hero cops/best friends Mike and Marcus, Bad Boys For Life features the pair coming to terms with their aging role in the police. However, even if the duo eventually hangs up their guns, there's an entirely new group of characters willing and able to take up the face of the franchise. Bad Boys For Life actually goes a long way towards setting up a potential spin-off centering around the police group known as AMMO.

THE BAD BOYS CREW

Rita is the leader of AMMO, a tactical police force that's been set up to deal with crime using a mix of modern technology and old-fashioned tactics. She is an experienced member of the Miami police, turning out to be a longtime ally to Mike and Marcus. She even briefly had a romance with Mike in the past, but (as with all of his other attempts at romance) their relationship fell apart. While she's the closest thing to authority within AMMO, she's not completely joyless in her work. Rita snarks with the rest of the group and can hold her own against Mike and Marcus at their most sarcastic. It's even implied that she and Mike might still have feelings for each other, which could easily be explored in future stories.

There are three members of the group who work alongside Rita. Two of them, Rafe and Kelly, primarily work as field agents. They're both adept in modern technology, with each of them essentially serving the action-packed kind of roles that Mike more easily filled in his youth. Rafe is the face of the group, easily getting the entire group (plus the older Mike and Marcus) into a club to find a suspect. Meanwhile, Kelly is easily as capable in a gunfight as Mike, holding her own during a massive shoot-out alongside Mike. Neither of them is given much character development within the story, but they both prove to be easy defenders of Miami.

Meanwhile, the tech support for the group comes from Dorn. He's an expert both with the technology utilized by the group and the internet in general, easily helping find evidence across the web. He's also a massive looking fellow. It's revealed that Dorn was formerly a bouncer at a club, but when he saw a patron roughing up a woman he blacked out and lashed out. He ended up doing a lot of damage to the man, and Dorn was traumatized as a result. He decided to try and avoid violence ever again. This ends up not actually happening though, as Dorn is forced into the final gunbattle of the film. He also proceeds to dominate the battle, taking down multiple enemies with his bare hands and even bringing down structures of the building on his own. He also desperately wants therapy after the fact, setting him up as the comic (but very effective) underestimated teammate.

THE ARMANDO ISSUE

The big question mark left by the conclusion of the film is Armando. The villain is a deadly cartel member who serves as the primary antagonist of the film. He's a ruthless killer when positioned against his targets, although he does seem to have some sense of humanity. He's shown not to be willing to sacrifice civilians while trying to shoot down Mike, arguing that he didn't want to leave witnesses. He's also revealed to be the secret son of Mike and a former cartel leader kingpin's wife named Isabel. But while his mother eventually dies in the final battle, Armando is merely wounded. He even helps save Marcus while being injured. Although he's arrested for his crimes at the end of the film, the post-credits scene hints that he may be given missions by AMMO to help earn his freedom.

This could easily make him the secret ringer for AMMO (and the franchise) going forward. When a mission calls for someone with a particularly dangerous set of skills, he'd be the perfect secret weapon, especially if it gave him the chance to bond with his father. His own arc of development within AMMO could provide plenty of fodder for the Bad Boys series if it were to continue, even in a spin-off film that doesn't feature Mike or Marcus at the center of the story.

Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a script written by Chris Bremner, Bad Boys For Life stars Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Paola Nunez, Kate Del Castillo, Nicky Jam and Joe Pantoliano.
