As the arrival of Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 looms closer, a new teaser arrives, further whetting the appetites of fans.

A new, more compact teaser of the full trailer for The Bad Batch's second season has hit, utilizing its shorter runtime to make a more impactful showcase of its action with brevity. However, there does appear to be some new footage here, notably with the sight of the titular team being forced to look up at an intimidating group of Wookiee warriors riding some uniquely wooly creatures. Thus, the hyped Wookiee Jedi youngling Gungi might just have company from his people. Plus, the familiar footage of the team being chased by giant crustacean-like creatures on a beach in the middle of a heist that clearly went sideways despite their best planning remains an exciting note on which to end.

The Emperor's Role in The Bad Batch Season 2

Another angle from the full Bad Batch Season 2 trailer that seems to speak volumes in its reappearance in the new teaser is the sight of Emperor Palpatine's ominous emergence in the galaxy's governing chamber. Of course, the fate of the Imperial Senate (formerly the Republic Senate) was the subject of one of Star Wars' earliest expository dialogues. In 1977's A New Hope during a meeting of Imperial elites on the Death Star, Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing) revealed that the Emperor had "dissolved the council permanently." Given Tarkin's penchant for understating things, said dissolution likely took shape as a destructive and violent event. Thus, Palpatine's presence among a group he will likely have killed is rather creepy.

Moreover, the Emperor's role itself has also been a topic of interest. That's because Ian McDiarmid, the actor who famously played the Imperial overlord himself going back to 1983's Return of the Jedi, continues to permeate the role -- last played onscreen in 2019's The Rise of Skywalker -- in voice form. Indeed, he lent his voice as Palpatine in three episodes of Star Wars Rebels in 2018 and, just recently, did so again (albeit in his former designation as Darth Sidious) for an episode of the anthology series Tales of the Jedi. Consequently, it will be interesting to see how much of a part the character will play here.

The Bad Batch Season 2 will continue showcasing the exploits of the ragtag outfit of uncontrollable facsimiles introduced at the end of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Disney+ has left nothing to mystery when it comes to what each episode will be called, having recently released the titles of all 16 episodes in one announcement.

The returning primary actor Dee Bradley Baker continues providing the voices of Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, Echo and Crosshair. Plus, in some consequential cameos, Baker is also voicing the fan-favorite Captain Rex and the Revenge of the Sith-originated character Commander Cody. In fact, the former's reappearance seems to be the catalyst for the group's new mission. Additionally, Michelle Ang is back in the voice role of Omega.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on Jan. 4, 2023.
