WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 6, "Decommissioned," streaming now on Disney+.

In The Bad Batch’s previous episode, the members of Clone Force 99 made an ally out of Cid, the former Republic informant, and now, in “Decommissioned,” she presses them into further service. The Trandoshan informant has a client that wants them to steal a tactical droid’s head from an Imperial decommissioning facility on Corellia.

Once on the ship-building world, the Bad Batch easily finds the tactical droid, but as usual, there's trouble. Two figures, who are revealed to be Trace and Rafa Martez from The Clone Wars Season 7, are attempting to steal the same thing. The two groups fight each other first, but they eventually work together to escape the approaching police droids. After everything, they put their differences aside, and Hunter the girls the information that Tech copied from the droid’s head. As they make their escape, however, viewers see the Martez sister's astromech droid, which looks suspiciously like Ahsoka’s former droid, R7.

Ashoka’s companion during The Clone Wars was R7-A7, an astromech droid that had red, gold and silver plating. R7 was pretty thoroughly destroyed when Ahsoka and Rex escaped a Republic cruiser during Order 66, but they ended up salvaging the droid from the crash. With that in the back of their minds, when fans saw the sisters' astromech, which appeared to have the same coloration as Ahsoka’s, they jumped to the conclusion that it was the same droid. And those beliefs appeared to be confirmed when Rafa addressed the droid as "R7."

However, while it initially appeared to have the same color scheme as Ashoka's dear friend, a small error appears to confirm it's not the same droid. A later view of the astromech reveals that it's actually silver with gold and green accents, not red and gold. The two views, which are less than five minutes apart in the episode, show clearly different colorations and constitute an undeniable continuity error.

The Bad Batch R7

With the error in mind, it seems unlikely that this R7 used to be Ahsoka’s droid. And on top of everything, it would be a questionable course of action for Ahsoka to have repaired her droid, reached out to the Martez sisters and emerged from hiding so soon after Order 66. With the galaxy in turmoil, she would likely choose to stay hidden as well as possible, even from friends. In what may be a simple nod to The Clone Wars by the creative team of The Bad Batch, it’s more likely that the Martez sisters simply acquired a droid with the same name as Ahsoka’s.

Created by Dave Filoni, Star Wars: The Bad Batch stars Dee Bradley Baker, Andrew Kishino and Ming-Na Wen. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
