Fans of the hit sci-fi drama Babylon 5 can look forward to some exciting but still mysterious news.Series creator J. Michael Straczynski took to Twitter to reveal that something major is in the works but didn't clarify any major details. "Nothing to do with the reboot/reimagining...and everything to do with the project that we've been working on in secret for almost two years," Straczynski said. "Exactly two weeks from [April 19], start watching the skies." At the time of writing, next to nothing is known about Straczynski's mysterious announcement but fans are already speculating. Many are expecting a feature-film follow-up to the cult classic series which originally ended in 1998 after five seasons. Others anticipate a spinoff set within the Babylon 5 universe that will coexist alongside the in-development reboot. Neither of these have been confirmed.

Babylon 5 Back in Action

Babylon 5's future continues to look bright as fans of the franchise can look forward to more space adventures as the show is slated to return with a "ground up" revival that is expected to update many elements for modern audiences. Straczynski is returning to the project as the head writer and the narrative will once again focus on the titular space station as it struggles to maintain peace between a variety of intergalactic civilizations.

In speaking about the reboot, Straczynski promised fans that the show won't rest on the laurels of the original and will strive to tell an original and unique story. "In the years since B5, I’ve done a ton of other TV shows and movies, adding an equal number of tools to my toolbox, all of which I can bring to bear on one singular question: If I were creating Babylon 5 today, for the first time, knowing what I now know as a writer, what would it look like?" the writer said. "I hope to create additional new forms of storytelling that will further push the television medium to the edge of what’s possible."

As for the new announcement, fans of Babylon 5 will want to stay tuned to Straczynski's Twitter feed on May 3 for new information. In the meantime, the original Babylon 5 series can be streamed on HBO Max.
