As both a director and cast member of the popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian, Taika Waititi knows more than most about the secrets behind the Star Wars television series -- including Baby Yoda's real name.While appearing on the red carpet this past weekend at the Golden Globe Awards, Waititi spoke with New York Times entertainment reporter Kyle Buchanan. Waititi noted that he knows the Force sensitive infant's true name but is waiting for series creator and executive producer Jon Favreau to disclose it publicly.RELATED: The Mandalorian Star 'Passed Out Twice' During Baby Yoda Scene

Waititi directed the Season 1 finale of the acclaimed series. He also appeared as the assassin droid IG-11, who forms its own bond with Baby Yoda by the season's end and plays a key role in the finale.

Baby Yoda's existence and identity was the driving force behind the first season, with remnants of the Galactic Empire hunting the infant. What role the child plays in the upcoming second season has yet to be seen. It is also unclear if Waititi will return to the Disney+ series as either an actor or director.
