Baby Shark Series Will Bring Every Parent's Earworm Nightmare to Animated Life

Nickelodeon is developing a new animated series based on Baby Shark, the wildly popular YouTube sensation from the South Korean children's educational brand Pinkfong.

"Baby Shark has captured the imagination of millions of fans around the world, so it’s no surprise it’s one of the top 10 most-viewed videos on YouTube ever," EVP Nickelodeon Animation Ramsey Naito said in a statement. "At the heart of any popular piece of content is a terrific character, and we have a great opportunity to further explore the world of Baby Shark and follow this family through some great animated adventures on Nickelodeon."

The original Baby Shark Dance video was uploaded to YouTube on June 17, 2016. In that time, it's managed to rack up an astounding 2.8 billion views. What's more, it even broke into the Billboard Top 100 in January of this year.

Currently, there are few details about the planned series, including an episode count or even a release date. However, given the speed in which these crazes often fade in and out of the zeitgeist, one can assume Nickelodeon plans to move forward sooner rather than later.
