Despite appearing in only one scene at the end of "Guardians of the Galaxy," Baby Groot immediately emerged as one the breakout stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The adorable little alien twig is poised to play a far more significant part in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," but as a new TV spot demonstrates, there are certain roles Groot isn't quite prepared for. Like that of spokesman.
A cross-promotional promo between the Marvel Studios sequel and GEICO brings Baby Groot together with the insurance company's ubiquitous mascot, the Gecko, with perhaps predictable results.
As the Gecko watches a trailer for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," he ponders the similarities in how the Guardians save the galaxy and how he saves people money on their insurance. The GEICO mascot ends his thought with a million-dollar question: What if he and Baby Groot teamed up? We're then taken aboard the Guardians' ship, the Milano, as the Gecko asks Baby Groot how they can help people save money. Of course, Baby Groot can only answer with his familiar three-worded phrase, "I am Groot." Finally, the Gecko is convinced that his partner didn't read the script.
Written and directed by James Gunn, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff and Kurt Russell. The film opens May 5.
