Azzarello & Lee Launch “Batman: Europa”

Batman’s globe-trotting adventures aren’t just meant for his brand building tour in “Batman Inc.,” it seems.

DC Comics announced today via their blog The Source that the Dark Knight Detective will soon embark on a mission through Europe where the stakes are no less than his own survival in “Batman: Europa,” a four-issue miniseries launching in January. Written by “First Wave” and “Joker” scribe Brian Azzarello and co-writer Matteo Casali, the mini sees Batman infected by a lethal virus where the only way he can save himself is to team up with his arch-nemesis the Joker and embark on a quest for a cure across Europe.

Each issue of the series will feature a different artist, kicking off with DC Co-Publisher Jim Lee once again collaborating with the award-winning writer (the pair previously crafted the year-long “Superman: For Tomorrow” series). Subsequent issues will feature art by Giuseppe Camuncoli, Diego Latorre and Jock.

The publisher provided Lee’s opening cover on the blog as part of the announcement, which is only the first piece of expected news to come in advance of this weekend’s New York Comic Con. Check The Source for more, and stay tuned to CBR for more on the project and the show.
