Official Press Release
Brian Azzarello, the award-winning writer of SUPERMAN, 100 BULLETS and BATMAN, has renewed his exclusive agreement with DC Comics, extending it for an additional three years.
Along with his regular writing assignments on SUPERMAN and 100 BULLETS, Azzarello is developing the new VERTIGO project LOVELESS. Illustrated by Marcelo Frusin, LOVELESS is an ongoing series best described as Bonnie and Clyde on horseback. It will tell the story of Wes Cutter, a battle-scarred veteran of the Civil War who returns home to discover that the only thing harder than surviving the war will be surviving the "peace."
"Hey, I've made bigger mistakes than signing on with DC again," says Azzarello. "Really, I'm having a good time, doing the kinds of projects I'd never be allowed to do anywhere else."
"Brian puts the cool in comics," says Karen Berger, VP - Executive Editor, VERTIGO. "Often imitated, never duplicated, he ushered in a new school of writing, and he just keeps on getting better. From JONNY DOUBLE to HELLBLAZER to SGT. ROCK: BETWEEN HELL AND A HARD PLACE to the multiple Eisner-award winning 100 BULLETS, he captures haunted, nuanced characters in smart, unconventional stories. He's been one of VERTIGO's backbones, and we're thrilled that he's committed to being exclusively ours again."
"Over the past year Brian has brought a unique and compelling style of storytelling to the DCU, and I'm looking forward to his continued involvement with the entire DC Universe," says Dan DiDio, DC's VP - Editorial.
