The newest installment in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise has added (500) Days of Summer's Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zola's Taylour Paige to its cast.

According to Deadline, the two are joining franchise regular Eddie Murphy, who will be reprising his role as Axel Foley, for the Netflix sequel, which will be called Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. Production is already in full swing, with Mark Molloy directing and Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films attached to produce.

The fourth Beverly Hills Cop was announced in late 2019 after Paramount made a deal with Netflix to bring the film to the popular streaming service. The original Beverly Hills Cop film was the highest-grossing film of 1984 and prompted two sequels: Beverly Hills Cop II in 1987 and Beverly Hills Cop III in 1994. The original film follows a Detroit cop, Axel (Murphy), who goes to Beverly Hills to solve a murder.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 Is Finally Happening

The new installment has taken a while to go into production. In 2021, Murphy said he'd only shoot Beverly Hills Cop 4 if the script was great. "They've been trying to do another Beverly Hills Cop for 15 years now," he explained, "but the script hasn't [been right]. Right now, Netflix has it and they're trying to develop a script. That's what we're supposed to be doing next. But I'm not doing nothing till the script is right."

Indeed, the sequel was supposed to come out in 2016, but Paramount Pictures removed it from their release slate in 2015.

The new film is marketed as a comeback vehicle for Murphy, but he has a number of other projects currently in the works. The actor has a role in You People, directed by Kenya Barris and co-written by Jonah Hill, which follows a new couple as their families attempt to navigate their clashing cultures. Murphy also has a part in an upcoming film Triplets opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. The sequel to Twins, the story sees Schwarzenegger and DeVito's characters discover they have another sibling.

There is no official release date for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley yet. All three Beverly Hill Cop films are currently available to stream on Paramount+.
