What started out as a morning of promise has turned into an afternoon of disappointment, as the Avengers 4 trailer, rumored to potentially release this evening, will not be revealed just yet, according to a tweet by Anthony Breznican of Entertainment Weekly.
Breznican, who focuses primarily on Star Wars and Marvel news, tried to let fans down with some comic relief after tweeting: "Hey, is the Avengers trailer coming out today?" The comment was followed by a video clip from the 1989 comedy The Burbs, where an angry Reuben Klopek (played by Brother Theodore) bellows an emphatic "No!" to Mark Rumsfield (played by Bruce Dern).

Multiple reports on Tuesday suggested that fans may catch a first glimpse of the still-untitled Avengers film on Wednesday evening, after a special screening of Infinity War that featured a Q&A with directors Joe and Anthony Russo. The inevitable swarm of questions regarding the new film that awaited the Russo's seemed to make Wednesday as good a time as any to release a teaser trailer. Fans will have to wait, though that likely won't stop anyone from bombarding the Russo brothers with questions tonight.
Naturally, many of the replies to Breznican's tweet were questions about when the trailer might be released, and if Marvel has given any indication of when it will inevitably break the internet with said trailer. Breznican didn't offer a response, but it's interesting to look back at the first Infinity War trailer release last year.
That first trailer released on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, 149 days before the blockbuster's April 27 premiere. The anticipated release date for the Avengers 4 trailer, which was originally Wednesday evening, would have been 156 days before the sequel's May 3, 2019 premiere. That's exactly a week earlier than last year's release. Could we potentially see a trailer around this time next week? We'll have to wait and see. Disney has been active with their trailer releases lately, dropping ones for Toy Story 4 and the Lion King live-action remake, so it would make sense to keep that momentum going with an Avengers trailer in the near future. Unfortunately, that day is not today.
The untitled sequel to Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 3, 2019. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel’s Avengers 4 stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie.
