The final fight in Avengers: Endgame featured just about every superhero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe showing up to take part in the epic battle with Thanos.

While the film took its time to showcase all of the heroes who helped the Avengers in that fateful final battle, Thanos also assembled a mighty army of his own that didn't get as much of a chance to shine.

Now, in a new interview with SlashFilm, WETA Digital Visual Effects Supervisor Matt Aitken discussed the battle and revealed who was on Thanos' side. Aitken confirmed that the fight featured three groups of alien warriors who appeared in previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

Naturally, the scene included the Chitauri, who served Thanos and fought the Avengers in 2012's The Avengers.

While those aliens are familiar, Aitken revealed that this massive battle introduced the Chitauri gorillas.

"We see the Chitauri leading them out by chains and then they set them free," Aitekn said. "These are not quite King Kong sized, but yeah, giant gorilla-ish, alien gorilla creatures who are a formidable force to be reckoned with on the battlefield."

Additionally, the scene also included the Outriders from Avengers: Infinity War. Aitken revealed that these were eight-limbed creatures, whereas in Infinity War there were only a few that had a full eight limbs.

The battle scene also included a more obscure group of alien fighters from Guardians of the Galaxy too.

"There’s the Sakaarans, and I think we see them first in Guardians on Morag," Aitken  said. "They’re kind of the ground troops who were trying to stop Quill when he grabs the Power Stone and escapes from Morag."

Aitken also revealed that the Dark Elves were briefly considered as potential candidates for Thanos' army. While they menaced Thor in Thor: The Dark World and in the comic book Marvel Universe in War of the Realms, they ultimately didn't make an appearance in the film.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Danai Gurira as Okoye and Bradley Cooper as Rocket, with Gwyneth Paltrow Pepper Potts, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Benedict Wong as Wong, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Josh Brolin as Thanos.
