The Avengers have maintained a lasting legacy as Marvel's most formidable team. Whether it's the comics or the movies, there is rarely a case where the teamwork between the Earth's Mightiest Heroes was not enough to at least narrowly defeat whatever threat lay ahead of them. Then again, they never had to face someone like DC's Doomsday.

When he was introduced in The Death of Superman, Doomsday singlehandedly decimated the city around him, the military, and even the whole Justice League. Superman was able to just barely put a stop to his chaos, but not without costing him his life in 1992's highest-grossing comic. It begs the question of whether Doomsday would be able to take care of the best heroes of the Marvel universe, or if any of them could put up a better fight than the Justice League did.

10 Couldn't Beat Doomsday: Great Lakes Avengers

the great lakes avengers

Not even the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl herself has a chance at taking down a merciless monster like Doomsday. So, naturally, neither does the rest of her teammates like Big Bertha, Flatman, Leatherboy, or Doorman.

Even for those not familiar with the Great Lakes Avengers, it's easy to surmise from their names alone that this is practically a parody team, or at least one more designed to be funny than threatening. Granted, when they get together, they get things done as a unit, but nobody should send a D-level squad to face an A-level threat.

9 Could Beat Doomsday: Astonishing Avengers

Astonishing-Avengers

As this picture immediately makes obvious, this team is comprised almost entirely of either notorious anti-heroes or outright villains. This is the result of Doctor Doom and Scarlet Witch creating an inversion spell that turned all of the world's heroes into baddies and the baddies into goodies.

Even on the side of good, this line of "heroes" still has a looser moral compass, meaning they will put a stop to Doomsday by any means necessary. The powers of Magneto and the unpredictable chaos of Carnage that rivals Doomsday should be enough to take the big lug down.

8 Couldn't Beat Doomsday: Avengers Unity Division

avengers-unity-squad-avengers-unity-division

After an event where both the X-Men and The Avengers went to war against each other, Captain America resolved to bring peace between the two teams by creating a sub-division that combined them. A team of both former X-Men and former Avengers— mutants and non-mutants— called Unity Division.

As was to be expected, it is a bit of an awkward match, which makes things difficult when everyone isn't on the same page against a monster like Doomsday. Even if they were, it's hard to imagine the likes of Spider-Man, Cable, and even the regenerative Deadpool not getting rag-dolled in the battle.

7 Could Be Doomsday: Dark Avengers

Dark Avengers

Working under the watchful and sinister eye of Norman Osborn, the Dark Avengers are a far cry from the good intentions that compiled the original staff— but as a unit, they are still a force that packs a punch.

Just look at this line-up: Mac Gargan's Venom, Daken Wolverine, and Sentry. That just barely scratches the surface on who all is in the team and that's already some of the most powerful forces in the Marvel universe. Sentry alone is enough to rip Doomsday in half with his bare hands.

6 Couldn't Beat Doomsday: Secret Avengers

Secret Avengers

For the most part, the Secret Avengers are compiled of humans with high tech armor and guns, which is basically just sending the military after Doomsday— and that didn't end too well in Death of Superman. Captain Britain isn't any match for Doomsday either, as he's basically British Superman.

With all due respect to Beast, Doomsday would spit that kitty out like a furball. The closest to a match for Doomsday is Agent Venom, but for the most part, his symbiote powers are restrained beneath his suit. Not under full power, he doesn't stand a chance.

5 Could Beat Doomsday: West Coast Avengers

HAWKEYE PLUS - West Coast Avengers

One of the earliest examples of an Avengers sub-division team, the West Coast Avengers was compiled by Vision in hopes that if the team split off into different sections of the world, then The Avengers have a better chance of taking on worldwide threats all at once.

The West Coast Avengers focused on threats taking place— appropriately— on the western part of the world and they were just as effective in doing so as the original team.

4 Couldn't Beat Doomsday: HYDRA Avengers

Scarlet Witch, Thor, and Vision from Hydra's Avengers in Secret Empire

In a world where HYDRA managed to take over the entire United States, what came with HYDRA was a new Avengers team employed by the evil organization. This consisted of a Thor who was unworthy; Vision and Scarlet Witch under mind control; and villains like Deadpool and Taskmaster.

On paper, this team is a lethal threat— but in execution, they never had their chemistry down pat. Especially when Thor eventually betrayed the team and Scarlet Witch and Vision were off their mind control. Then of course, Deadpool and Taskmaster never liked each other. With them out of sync, Doomsday would use this to his advantage.

3 Could Beat Doomsday: Ultimates

captain marvel black panther miss america spectrum and blue

The Ultimates were created by Captain Marvel with the intention of stopping potentially disastrous world-ending threats before they manifest themselves. Meaning there is a good chance that Captain Marvel and company— which includes Black Panther, Blue Marvel, Spectrum, and Miss America— might already have a game plan for someone like Doomsday long before reaching the battlefield.

On their first mission, before they even perfected their chemistry, The Ultimates were able to have an answer for Galactus. If they can stop a threat as big and bad as Galactus at their worst, then surely they can beat Doomsday at their best.

2 Couldn't Beat Doomsday: Avengers Academy

Avengers Academy

As the saying goes, you don't send a child to do a man's job. Avengers Academy is comprised of young heroes in the distant future who are recruited and trained to become a new wave of Avengers.

Separately, no one on the team displays any powers that would make for an ample match against Doomsday and even if they did, they have not honed the skills perfectly enough as students to deliver a final blow to the beast. Even under the tutelage of people like Captain Marvel, this team just doesn't have the tools to defeat such a major threat by themselves.

1 Could Beat Doomsday: OG Avengers

wasp captain america hulk iron man thor and ant man

As another saying goes, nothing beats the original. No one can beat the original line-up of The Avengers from when their team first debuted together in 1963. Granted, Cap didn't join until the fourth issue of The Avengers, but nonetheless, he was given founding member status.

Against this line-up, Doomsday would have to deal with the physical strength of Iron Man and Hulk; lightning strikes from Thor; a wild shield colliding with his head; Ant-Man turning into a giant to squish him; and a Wasp buzzing through and around his ear. Doomsday doesn't stand a chance.
