The promotion for Marvel Comics' "Avengers: No Surrender" has consistently promised to leave the Avengers franchise significantly changed. In the just-released solicitations for Marvel's April 2018 releases, a variant cover for No Surrender's finale might offer a clue as to how the team will look once it moves past the big event.
"The battle is over, and those left standing in the rubble have to find a way to move forward," the solicitation text promises of "No Surrender's" big finale. "As an era of the Avengers comes to a close, what will rise to take its place?"
The variant, illustrated by artist InHyuk Lee, depicts a group of Avengers literally standing atop a mound of rubble. Falcon is there, front and center, possibly indicating he'll lead the post-No Surrender team. To his right is Rogue, another contender for this team's leader, and the newly introduced Voyager, while Sunspot (another former Avengers team leader) stands to Sam Wilson's left. Behind them is the Hulk, presumably the version who will be introduced mid-way through the event, with Beast perched on his shoulder. Finally, we have the Wasp on Beast's outstretched finger, though it's impossible to tell if this is Janet Van Dyne or the new Wasp, Nadia Pym.
Whether this is the new team remains to be seen, of course, but the similarities between this over and the classic statue of the team's founding members is unlikely to be coincidental. There's still a long way to go before we reach the end, and there's no guarantee that all -- or any, really -- of these heroes survive.
